COVID-19: October 30, 2020 Update from Representative Dykema

October 30th Coronavirus Update

I hope you and your families have a safe and fun Halloween weekend! I know that celebrating holidays requires a bit of creativity and a lot of flexibility these days, and I thank you for all you’re doing to make our communities festive while keeping us all safe and healthy.

The administration has released guidance and tips for celebrating Halloween during COVID-19, which can be found online. In general, these tips encourage continued adherence to statewide gathering size, face covering, and other public health advisories in place, as well as:

  • Encouraging “one-way” or “grab and go” trick-or-treating to minimize person to person contact
  • Wearing masks that are COVID-19 compliant under or over any costume.
  • Practicing good hygiene, including using hand sanitizer between houses if you are trick-or-treating or leaving sanitizer out if you are hosting trick-or-treaters.

You can find more information on Halloween and other holiday celebrations on the Centers for Disease Control website as well. No matter how you choose to celebrate, please continue to be as dedicated to virus prevention as possible. As you can see from our daily and weekly data below, virtually all public health trends are progressing in the wrong direction at this moment and it is important that we reinforce and renew our vigilance as we move forward into the winter.
