Tree Trimming Along Holliston’s Rail Trail

Friday, April 30, Arbor Day 2021, the Holliston Rail Trail was treated to a tree-trimming from Washington St. to Church St.  Tree Specialists, Simkins Tree Service, and Stumpy’s Tree Service donated their time, skill, and equipment for a full workday on the trail.  The thinning of problem trees and branches helps make the trail safe from wind damage.  The number of man hours donated is one way local businesses give back to the community.

Trail walkers and bikers were routed around the work area by volunteers located at each road/trail crossing.  Volunteers included Rail Trail Committee members Robert Weidknecht, Bud Schmidt, Ken Henderson, as well as volunteers Lloyd Berenger, Annie Hale, Jay Metcalf, Dave O’Neil, Dick Masson, Bob Pierotti, and Gene Madden.   Many thanks to Rolf Briggs, who organized the workers and made the day go smoothly.

Holliston’s trail is an asset to outdoor recreation. Once again, businesses and volunteers combined efforts to perform a public service improving the trail’s usefulness and benefitting many.   Keep up the good work!  It shows.
