An Announcement from Your Publishers

Five years ago, after retiring from our respective careers, we chose Holliston as our new home to be close to our daughter’s family (meaning grandchildren). Our retirement dreams included leisure time and travel to explore new places.  Although not a thought when formulating our retirement dreams, The Holliston Reporter became our obsession, and we have gladly given this particular retirement project our all.  Our work on the Holliston Reporter has been a pleasure:  we have immersed ourselves in the community, learning about and enjoying its history, people and events.

As we emerge from the isolation of the pandemic, we, like many, have a renewed appreciation for life and all that it offers.  For us, that means finding a balance between our Reporter work—staying in touch with Holliston— and our planned retirement lifestyle.

Beginning next Sunday, August 1, we will publish new content to the Holliston Reporter site three times per week:  Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday.  As we currently average about 15 posts per week, we still expect to deliver the same amount of content—just posted across fewer days—giving us some getaway time.

The reality of our time is that we are never truly off-line.  Zoom continues to allow us to cover Town committee and board meetings—either live or recorded.  Obituaries will be posted as they come in and urgent items will be posted as soon as possible.

  • Sundays will include:  the weekly calendar, Civics Sunday (as appropriate), milestones (other than obits, and other contributions.
  • Tuesdays will include: Select Board meeting, Fire Log, and other contributions.
  • Fridays will include: Real Estate (2nd and 4th), sports, and other contributions.

We always welcome content with direct relevance to Hollistonians.  The more people that help cover our town, the more we all know.  Please consider being a periodic reporter!

Editors, this is good to a point. There will be times when there is “breaking news” and you need to be able to cover it. If you are to run a local newspaper you will need to cover practicality with vigilance to avoid being more than a gossip column. It is important that you be able to adapt to items such as yesterday’s decision of the planning board regarding the Hopping Brook 555 project. I appreciate what you folks are doing as community concerned retirees, but to deserve your important position you need to be prepared to make exceptions when needed. Considering how you have responded in the past, I am sure you will find a way to adjust to local urgencies. Thanks for keeping “Holliston Reporter” alive, and I hope you continue with your generous service to the town.

You have made a difference in the lives of so many people with your press coverage (and personal relationships with so many people). Your plan is very well thought out and makes so much sense. We should encourage you to take some time for yourselves so that – selfishly – we may continue to enjoy the fruits of your Perry White efforts. Stay well and continue to be so kind. P.S. And enjoy some time for yourselves!
