Victoria Regina Markunas at 72
Victoria Regina Markunas, 72, of North Eastham, passed away at Atria Woodbriar Park Assisted Living in Falmouth, MA. She was the wife of nearly 48 years to Peter J. Markunas who passed away in 2020.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 1st at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Cemetery.
Select Board: August 30, 2021 Meeting
The August 30, 2021 meeting of the Holliston Select Board was called order by Chair Tina Hein right at 7:00pm. Sitting in the Town Administrator’s seat was Acting Town Administrator, Fire Chief Michael Cassidy. During the course of the meeting Cassidy wore three (four?) different hats.

A week of pre-dawn calls, except for the weekend when the ambulance crews got a couple extra hours of sleep.
Cultural Council 2022 Grant Request Period Opens September 1st
The Holliston Cultural Council seeks funding proposals from local artists, organizations, and schools. The Council provides cultural programming for a variety of ages and interests throughout the year, including music and dance performances, visual arts exhibits and workshops, and school-based events. Many events were still able to take place during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Council looks forward to offering continued innovative events and workshops in 2022.
John Alan Themeli at 77
John Alan Themeli, 77, of Holliston, passed away at his home on Saturday, February 27, 2021.
For those who knew and loved John, a CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held on September 18, 2021 at 73 Prospect St. in Holliston.
Charles James “Jamie” Duross Jr. at 55
Charles James “Jamie” Duross Jr., 55, of Holliston, formerly of Needham and Weymouth, passed away on Thursday, August 26th following a battle with cancer.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 30th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston, 854 Washington St.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 31st at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Church of Holliston.

“Celebrating on Central” in 2021
After an unprecedented cancellation in 2020, due to the pandemic, the 30th annual Celebrate Holliston festivities will continue this year on September 18th, in a new location. This year, Celebrate Holliston is excited to be “Celebrating on Central” Street. The downtown, street-party style event will stretch down Central Street (closed from Washington Street to Blair Square) to bring the community together in a family-friendly, spaced-out, outdoor space – with the additional benefit of offering walking and biking access directly from the Rail Trail.

Veterans and Senior Cookout and Community Closet Cleanup
The Holliston Lions Club will be holding their annual cookout for Seniors and Veterans (normally held in June) at the Holliston Senior Center. All Seniors and Veterans in Holliston are welcome to attend. There is no charge for this event. It will be held on Sunday, September 19. Seating begins at 11:45 with food being served at 12:00.

Different Night – Select Board Still Fills Its Agenda
The Select Board switched it up this week and held its meeting on Thursday, August 26, 2021. Chair Tina Hein called the meeting to order at 7:00pm. First on the agenda was an update from Fire Chief Michael Cassidy.
The Town’s ARPA Steering Group Continues Reviewing Requests
The Town’s ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) Steering Group continued reviewing requests it has received from Town departments, committees, and entities for funding from Holliston’s $4.4 million appropriation. Mr. Ahern convened the meeting at noon on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. Ahern noted that member John Cronin would be absent from this meeting.
Trails Committee Discusses Recent Flooding on the Rail Trail
The Holliston Trails Committee met recently. Chair Robert Weidknecht called the remote meeting to order at 7:00pm. Several items were on the committee’s monthly agenda. Three requests for rail trail improvements from the ARPA funds designated to Holliston were discussed and will be used to illustrate the how requests flow through the Town’s approval / deferral process.
When It’s Hot – Get the Ice Cream Out!
Holliston’s Finest served up refreshing ice cream with all the toppings to the residents of Mission Springs on Wednesday, August 25th.

John “Jack” Alexander Love at 33
John “Jack” Alexander Love, 33, of Redwood City, CA died unexpectedly on August 20, 2021 after an accident in Lake Cumberland, Kentucky.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday 8/26/21 from 4-7 pm at Chesmore Funeral Home at 854 Washington Street, Holliston, MA.

Bd. of Health Seeks Public Input on Mask Policy
At the Board of Health meeting NEXT Tuesday at 7:00pm, the Board is seeking community input. The meeting will be accessible via Zoom and phone.
