Veterans and Senior Cookout and Community Closet Cleanup

The Holliston Lions Club will be holding their annual cookout for Seniors and Veterans (normally held in June) at the Holliston Senior Center. All Seniors and Veterans in Holliston are welcome to attend. There is no charge for this event.  It will be held on Sunday, September 19.  Seating begins at 11:45 with food being served at 12:00.

You can expect a “traditional” cookout, hamburgers, hot dogs, salad, chips, soda, and water along with a special dessert supplied by the Holliston Lions Club members! To register for this event, simply call the Holliston Senior Center at (508) 429-0622 and let them know you want to sign up for the Lions cookout. Again, remember, there is no charge for this event. Seating on a first come, first serve basis.

In addition, we’re asking members of the Holliston community to donate clothing, coats, eyeglasses, hearing aids, yarn, and spare change. It’s a great way to clean out your closet!  These items may be dropped off at the Holliston Senior Center on September 19 from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm.  There will a collection area outside that will be clearly marked and staffed by Lions members.

Clothing — We’ll take all types of clothing for men, women and children.  Please place these in trash bags and tie them shut. We’ll bring these to SAVERs and in return, we’ll get funds that will go to relief efforts in Haiti through the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF).

Coats — Please bag gently used winter coats for kids of all ages and adults separate from other clothing and mark the bags clearly as “Coats”.  These will go to the “Coats for Kids” program this fall.  Last year, we donated more than 200 coats to this project.

Yarn — for the second year we will also be collecting yarn scraps or any yarn you are not using! Thanks to your generosity, we have already made and donated more than 200 hats locally and across MetroWest.  We have also made several blankets which will be given to those in need.  Please bag the yarn separately and mark it clearly as “yarn”.

Eyeglasses/Hearing Aids —  Prescription and non-prescription glasses of all kinds and hearing aids of any type or style are welcome! Please take glasses out of their case and please keep glasses and hearing aids separate from other kinds of donations.

Pennies for Sight — We welcome spare change.  We will donate this to Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund (a 501(c)3 foundation) to fund important vision-related research at Massachusetts facilities!

As always, the Holliston Lions Club appreciates every member of our community who steps up to help us help others. Without your support, our activities would be impossible.  If you would like to learn more about membership in the Holliston Lions Club, or more about any of our programs, please feel free to send an email to us at membership@hollistonmalions.org or visit our Facebook page!
