Miller Students Contribute to Holliston Author Peters’ Soon to Be Published Debut
This January, local Holliston author Shawn Peters’ middle grade superhero debut, The Unforgettable Logan Foster (HarperCollins, January 4) will be on sale for readers everywhere! Holliston was an integral part of Peters’ writing process – over 100 5th graders from Miller Elementary, where his wife was a teacher, read his manuscript before it was even published.
After having the students read his manuscript, Peters talked to the 5th grade classes at Miller Elementary about what they liked, what they didn’t, and what would make it even better. This was a transformative process because while adults can tell a writer what they think kids will like, nothing tops hearing it straight from his target audience!
Even the 5th graders who said they did not enjoy reading in general saw themselves in the book and became totally immersed! During this process, Peters realized this book is for kids who don’t see themselves as the heroes of their own stories.
The Unforgettable Logan Foster is packed with superheroes, supervillains, and epic showdowns between good and evil. The debut author Shawn Peters shows that sometimes being a hero is just about being yourself.
Peters, a Holliston resident for 18 years, has spent more than two decades writing professionally for television and advertising. He is married and a father of two kids. Shawn is by his own description a suburban-dad trope-fest. He enjoys coaching his kid’s teams and was on the board of HYBSA (Holliston Youth Baseball and Softball Association). He also enjoys playing old-dude softball and comparing IPAs with other dads. In his spare time, Shawn makes ultra-nerdy Dungeons and Dragons puns on Twitter under the handle @DnDadJokes.
