Agricultural Commission Interviews Prospective Members

The Holliston Agricultural Commission met remotely Tuesday evening with Chair Carrie Marsh-Loscocco presiding. A discussion was held as to the disposition of the community gardens located behind the Pinecrest Golf Course Clubhouse. The commission no longer feels that the gardens fall under their responsibility as a group. Since the gardens are located on town property any group or organization wishing to take over the garden plots would have to be a town entity. Marsh-Loscocco indicated that the Community Farm located on Rogers Road passed on the offer to add to their own inventory of garden plots. The board voted to no longer maintain or manage the gardens.

Interviews were then held with four candidates to fill several spots on the commission. Vicky Keller and Claire Toohey, both of Peas, Love & Parsley, Adam Taylor, and Andy Reseeka of Boston Honey Co. fielded questions from the board. Taylor said he wished to join the commission to partake in the community gardens. Since the board is opting away from the gardens, Taylor stated “I don’t see myself as being a suitable member and withdrew his name from consideration. The board will recommend to the Select Board that Claire Toohey become a full member and Vicky Keller & Andy Reseeka become associate members.

Marsh-Loscocco stated that Holliston now has seven cannabis operations in town and she suggested the board send welcome letters to all. “Its nice to see more agriculture coming to town than leaving she stated.

The recent farms day was a success with August Horse Farm on Highland Street so much so that there was a limit on the number of horse rides due a huge number of cowboys and girls wishing to take the reins.

The board will send a welcome letter to a new farm setting up shop in the former Brayhill Country Store located at 369 Concord Street. Marsh-Loscocco said she was told by a realtor that the new shop which was established in Framingham will sell meat and eggs. The information was confirmed by Town Planner Karen Sherman.

The next meeting of the commission will be held on October 26th.
