Welsh Conductor Scott Ellaway to lead St. Mary’s Annual Lessons and Carols

From Marybeth Harris

Scott Ellaway

Recently, St. Mary’s, Holliston, welcomed Welsh Conductor Scott Ellaway as Artist in Residence through June 19, 2022.  Ellaway is an honours graduate of Oxford University, where he was an organ scholar and Director of the Keble College Chapel Choir.  He also holds diplomas in organ and choral directing from the Royal College of Organists, and is a Fellow at Jonathan Edwards College, Yale University.

As an organist and choral director, Ellaway has worked at the highest levels both nationally and internationally, including a number of English cathedral and collegiate settings (Worcester Cathedral; Keble College, Oxford; Bristol Cathedral); at leading churches in the United States including St. Thomas’, Fifth Avenue; and with leading choirs such as the BBC Singers.

On Sunday, December 12, at 5 PM, Ellaway will conduct St. Mary’s Annual Lessons and Carols Service.  This Advent and Christmas celebration combines scripture and music to honor the Coming of the Lord.  It will feature St. Mary’s Adult, Youth, and Children’s Choirs, with accompaniment by Dr. Andrew Scanlon, Assistant Organist at the Church of the Advent, Boston.

All are invited to enjoy choral works by Praetorius, Victoria, Rutter, and others, as well as traditional Christmas carols to sing along.

The event will take place in St. Mary’s Church, and is free and open to the public.  Come let us Adore Him!
