Emily T. Pratt at 100

Emily T. Pratt, 100, of Millis, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022, at the Timothy Daniels House in Holliston. Born in Rutland, Vermont, she was the daughter of the late Mary Vitaline (Gauvin) and Chester A. Thompson. Emily was married to the late L. Gordon Pratt for 58 years. She was predeceased by her brother, Albert Thompson.

Emily spent her early childhood in Vermont.  After the death of her father, her family moved to Taunton where Emily spent most of her life.  After her husband’s death, she moved to Medway to be near her grandchildren.

A 1940 graduate of Taunton High School, Emily worked as a bookkeeper in numerous Boston & Taunton businesses and as a clerk secretary at the U.S. Army Camp Myles Standish in Taunton. Emily left the work force to raise her children and care for her invalid mother. When she was ready to return to work, Emily worked as a Welcome Wagon hostess, then earned her real estate license. She was a realtor with both E.M. Helides and Brisco Realty. While taking a break from real estate, she sold bridal gowns at Taunton’s New York Lace Store. She enjoyed telling stories about helping brides choose their wedding gowns, and a few years later guiding them through the process of buying a house.

Emily was very active in the Dighton Community Church. She served on the Hospitality Committee and was especially involved in making the annual Day Lily Show a success. Always willing to give her time and energy, Emily volunteered through the years as a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts of America, a leader for Girl Scouts, a Sunday School teacher, a member and President of Caleb Barnum School’s PTA and a member of the Junior Woman’s Club of Taunton. Emily was most proud of her ten years spent as a Mass Literacy Volunteer. An avid reader, Emily loved helping others learn to read and teaching people to read and speak English as a second language.

Emily is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence G. Pratt, Jr. and Tina Pratt of Corbin City, NJ, her daughter and son-in-law, Linda Pratt Albertinetti and Michael Albertinetti of Millis, her grandsons, Justin Albertinetti and Keith Albertinetti of Millis and her niece, Diane Ruete of Ellington, CT.

The Pratt and Albertinetti families would like to thank the staff of the Timothy Daniels House for the loving care they gave Emily.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Emily Pratt may be made to Medway Village Church Food Pantry (170 Village Street, Medway, MA 02053) or Timothy Daniels House Activities Dept (84 Elm Street, Holliston, MA 01746).
