HPD Monthly Update: July and August 2022

Personnel Highlights:

  • During the month of July, all department members reviewed Policy 7.18 “Metro-LEC Activation Protocol
  • Assistance Request.”
  • During the month of July, all department members reviewed Policy 7.19 “Metro-LEC Callout Protocol.”
  • On July 5 & 6, 2022, Officer Parent attended a two-day “Next Generation 9-1-1 New Hire” training course in Middleboro, MA.
  • On July 7, 2022, Sergeant Andrew MacGray attended a one-day training seminar entitled “New Sergeants/Supervisors Training” at the Grafton Police Department.
  • On July 11 – 14, 2022, Officer Parent attended a four-day “Field Training Officer” course at the Barnstable Police Department.
  • On July 18, 2022, Sergeant Ken Belson completed fifteen (15) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
  • On July 21, 2022, Lieutenant Thompson, Officer Grace, Officer Parent, and Officer Keefe conducted physical abilities test (PAT) assessments for our new police officer recruits at the Holliston High School.
  • On July 24, 2022, Officer Daniel Griffith completed twenty-two (22) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
  • On July 25, 2022, Officer Palencia attended a one-day training course entitled “Breath Test Operator.”
  • On July 26, 2022, Chief Stone, Lieutenant Thompson, Sergeant MacGray, Officer Parent, and Assistant Town Administrator/Human Resources Director conducted structured interviews for the position of full-time police officer in the John Johnson training room.
  • During the month of July, Sergeant/K-9 Hagan and K-9 Mattis completed their mandatory 16 hours of in[1]service training with the Boston Police K-9 Unit.
  • During the month of August, all department members reviewed Policy 4.01 “Internal Affairs.”
  • During the month of August, all department members reviewed Policy 4.02 “Disciplinary Procedures.”
  • During the month of August, all department members reviewed Policy 4.03 “Police Media Relations.”
  • On August 1, 2022, Detective Ciara Maguire reached twenty-eight (28) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
  • On August 17, 2022, Officer Guillermo Palencia reached one (1) year of service with the Holliston Police Department.
  • On August 19, 2022, Sergeants Waugh and Remkus conducted annual CPR/First Responder training to our two school crossing guards at the Holliston Police station.
  • On August 25, 2022, Dispatcher Lodola attended a one-day “Massachusetts Instant Record Check System (MIRCS)” online training course.
  • On August 26, 2022, Chief Stone, School Resource Officer DiGiorgio, and School Resource Officer Woods met with the leadership team at the Holliston Public Schools Central Office and Assistant Principals from each school regarding “Student Safety and Security” for the 2022/2023 school year.
  • On August 28, 2022, Sergeant Matthew Waugh reached sixteen (16) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
  • On August 29, 2022, the Holliston Select Board appointed Officer Christopher Mustard as the department’s newest Police Officer by the Holliston Select Board.
  • On August 30, 2022, Chief Stone attended the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council (Metro-LEC)’s monthly meeting in his new role on the Council’s Executive Board.
  • On August 31, 2022, several members of the Holliston Police Department were present at all four Holliston schools to welcome students and staff back for their first day.
  • During the month of August, Sergeant/K-9 Hagan and K-9 Mattis completed their mandatory 16 hours of in-service training with the Boston Police K-9 Unit.

Community Relations:

  • On July 5, 2022, Detective Maguire attended the swearing-in ceremony of new Medway Police Chief William Kingsbury.
  • On July 7, 2022, Chief Stone, Select Woman Tina Hein, and Town Administrator Travis Ahern participated in an “Ask the TA” event regarding the Traffic Advisory Committee at the Holliston Cable Access Television studio.
  • On July 9, 2022, members of the Holliston Police Department and the Holliston Auxiliary Police assisted the Town with the annual “Hazardous Material Collection Day” at the Placentino Elementary School.
  • On July 10 & 11, 2022, Chief Stone attended the wake/funeral services of United States Army National Guard Colonel/Natick Police Department Sergeant Brett Conaway.
  • On July 13, 2022, Officer Charette and Officer Ciavarra provided a tour of the police station for a young group of Girl Scouts.
  • On July 25 – 29, 2022, School Resource Officer Digiorgio, School Resource Officer Woods, Officer Grace, Officer Ciavarra, and Officer Keefe held our annual “Junior Police Academy” for students in grades 6, 7, and 8 at the Holliston High School.
  • On July 28, 2022, the Junior Police Academy took a field trip into Boston, MA to visit the Massachusetts State Police Marine Unit. All of the recruits and academy staff were given a tour of Boston Harbor aboard “Marine 44” and “Marine 45.”
  • On July 30, 2022, Sergeant Hagan and K-9 Mattis performed a K-9 demonstration at the “Spencer and Penny’s Birthday Celebration” event at 200 Summer Street.
  • On August 2, 2022, several members of the police department participated in the annual “National Night Out” against crime event at Goodwill Park. This year, the Holliston Police Department partnered with the Massachusetts National Guard Recruitment Unit for another successful summer event.
  • On August 3, 2022, Chief Stone was a “guest reader” for story hour at the Holliston Public Library.
  • On August 5, 2022, Officer DiGiorgio assisted “Kermit’s Team” as they traveled through Town on bicycles as part of the “Pan-Mass Challenge” fundraising event.
  • On August 8 – 12, 2022, the Holliston Police Department held our annual “Junior Police Academy” at the Holliston High School for students entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. The program was organized and operated by our two School Resource Officers: Officer Bryan DiGiorgio and Officer Mike Woods.
  • On August 23, 2022, the Holliston Police Department hosted an “Ice Cream Social” event for the residents of Mission Springs.
  • On August 25, 2022, the Holliston Police Department hosted an “Ice Cream Social” event for the residents of Cole Court.

Upcoming Events:

  • September 18th (TODAY) – The Holliston Police Department will be assisting with the “Norfolk Street Bike & Walk Tour.”
  • September 24th – The Holliston Police Department will have a booth at the Celebrate Holliston Field Day event at Goodwill Park. We encourage residents and families to stop down and meet some of your local Holliston Police Officers.
  • October 11th – November 15th – The Holliston Police Department will be hosting another 6-week session of our “Citizens Police Academy” at the police station. Residents who are interested in participating in this unique learning opportunity should email Sergeant Matthew Waugh waugh@hollistonpolice.com or Sergeant Jonathan Remkus remkus@hollistonpolice.com. There is NO COST for this program.
  • October 30th – The Holliston Police Department will be hosting their annual “Pumpkin Patrol” event at the Holliston Police station. Children and their families are encouraged to come down to the police station dressed in their Halloween costumes and paint pumpkins.
  • Week of November 7th – 11th – The Holliston Police Department will be hosting its annual “Veteran’s Appreciation Breakfast” at the Holliston Historical Society.
