Library Trustees Chair Karla Alfred opened the September 7, 2022, Zoom meeting on the 7th at 7 PM. Minutes of the July 27, 2022, meeting were approved, and Library Director Deric Wilson reported the recent hiring of two Library Technicians to existing positions—one with 4 hours/week and a second with 15-18 hours/week.

The Trustees approved Fall hours—to begin on September 12, 2022—as follows:

The Trustees previously requested Director Wilson review Library Policies in need of updates.  Two were discussed this evening:  The Library Card Use Policy, which will remain the same, and the Policy for Picking up Reserve Materials, which will continue to be reviewed as Wilson gathers employee feedback. 

Wilson reported that the Friends of the Library is considering forming a committee for selection of the One Book, One Holliston.  Wilson has requested Holliston Cultural Committee grants to support a watercolor class with additional requests possible.  A pilot program Wilson is exploring provides 3 author talks a month for a one-year period.  The live Zoom talks are recorded for future use as well. Speakers include adult, young adult and picture book authors. He may approach the Friends group for support.

Practices of the Mystery Book Club were reviewed and discussed.  Its monthly meeting has utilized the Town’s Zoom link, but Trustees felt that Zoom book clubs are not feasible especially given that the Library has approximately a dozen book clubs.  The Library is open to any group who wants to meet with the reservation of a Library space.  The Library will continue to reserve books for book clubs. 

Movies on the 2nd Monday of the month will continue, with the exception of September.  Wilson will elicit title suggestions from regular participants.

The Massachusetts Public Library Construction Program (MPLCP) Grant Cycle is presently open for proposals for construction grants. Wilson and Alfred are interested in speaking to the Town Administrator for the way ahead.
