Library Trustees Meet

Holliston’s Library Trustees met remotely on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, during which time Library Director Deric Wilson (below right) presented his monthly Director’s Report.  Karla Alfred, Chair of the Trustees, (left below) opened the meeting at 7 PM, and the group promptly approved its September meeting minutes.

Wilson began his report sharing the request of Town Administrator Travis Ahern to discuss the Town’s draft of a Code of Conduct for Officers and Employees with the Trustees.  Trustees received an electronic copy of the Code on July 18 from Alfred, and members agreed that the Code was straightforward.  Wilson said he would relay their agreement to Ahern.

During the Town Meeting of October 17, 2022, the Warrant Article concerning a feasibility study of the Library was a concern to someone who did not want the Library relocated.  Ahern addressed this concern by sharing that a feasibility study presents various options for the building that include renovating the original building as well.  This Warrant Article passed unanimously.

Wilson then spoke briefly about two planned changes to the Book Check-Out Policy—first, who may pick up books for another patron, and second, the age of children picking up books. Wilson said that once the details have been set, there will be a slow roll out and a transition period for all patrons to become aware of any changes.

Some discussion about November Library closing dates, especially the Thanksgiving break, led Wilson to explain that he would present the dates during the next staff meeting for discussion.

Wilson announced that an author talk by Kate Quinn will be presented tonight, Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at 7 PM at the Library.  It is planned to be a one-hour program.

One Book, One Holliston (sponsored by Friends of the Library) has selected Travels with George, by Nathaniel Philbrick.  Participants will be able to pick up books sometime prior to Thanksgiving.

New adult graphic novels are presently being displayed on the shelves of new books. Wilson is exploring options for more permanent placement of these books.

The next meeting of the Library Trustees is November 2, 2022, at 7PM.  The meeting adjourned at 7:44 PM.

Thanks to library patrons, the sticker-by-the-numbers mural is finished. Of course, this diver is reading a good book under the sea.
