Holliston Police Department Monthly Update: January 2023

Personnel Highlights:

  • During the month of January, all department members reviewed Policy 4.09 “Use of Mobile Data Terminal.”
  • During the month of January, all department members reviewed Policy 4.10 “Computer and Data Security.”
  • On January 4, 2023, Officer Grace attended a one-day “Snow and Ice Operations” training course at the Holliston Police Department.
  • On January 5, 2023, Chief Stone attended the quarterly Metro West Regional Emergency Planning Committee (REPC) meeting at the Holliston Police Department.
  • On January 6, 2023, Officer Ryan Parent and Officer Alex Hulme reached three (3) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
  • On January 6, 10, 19, and 26, 2023, all members of the Holliston Police Department attended a one-day “Legal Update” training course at the Warren Conference Center in Ashland, MA.
  • On January 8, 2023, Officer John Loftus and Officer David Charette reached five (5) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
  • On January 9, 2023, after a lengthy and very competitive process, Mr. James Barrett was appointed and sworn in as the police department’s new Operational Lieutenant.
  • On January 10, 2023, Chief Stone, Lieutenant Barrett, and School Resource Officer (SRO) Woods attended a school safety meeting at Holliston Public School’s Central Office.
  • On January 11, 2023, Chief Stone, Lieutenant Barrett, and Traffic Safety Officer Grace attended Holliston’s Traffic Advisory Committee (TAC) in the John Johnson training room at the police station.
  • On January 11, 2023, Chief Stone, Lieutenant Barrett, and Officer Parent attended the monthly operations meeting for our Jail Diversion Program (JDP) at the Sherborn Police Department.
  • On January 13, 2023, Lieutenant Barrett joined School Resource Officers (SRO) Woods and Ciavarra on a campus tour of the four Holliston Public Schools.
  • On January 13, 2022, Officer Heney and Officer Grace were presented with the department’s “Life Saving Award” at morning roll call for their actions on a medical emergency call for service that occurred on December 18, 2022.
  • On January 13, 2023, Lieutenant Barrett attended a firearms qualification training session with Sergeant Remkus at the Hopkinton Sportsmen’s Association.
  • On January 17, 2023, Chief Stone, Lieutenant Thompson, and Lieutenant Barrett met with Fire Chief Cassidy to discuss the upcoming Emergency Preparedness training scheduled with Holliston Police personnel, Holliston Fire personnel, and Holliston Schools personnel at the end of the month.
  • On January 17 – 19, 2023, Detective DiGiorgio attended a three-day comprehensive crime scene investigations course entitled “Dust ‘n Bust” at the Duxbury Police Department.
  • On January 19, 2023, Lieutenant Barrett attended a Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council (Metro-LEC) Supervisor Orientation meeting at the Medway Police Department.
  • On January 20, 2023, the police department’s preliminary budget request for Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) was submitted to the Town Administrator and the Town Accountant.
  • On January 22, 2023, Officer Charles Grace reached five (5) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
  • On January 23, 2023, Chief Stone attended the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association (MACOPA) “School Safety and Security” subcommittee meeting.
  • On January 23, 2023, Sergeants Waugh and Remkus attended a half-day “Post Promotional Suicide” training course at the Grafton Police Department.
  • On January 24, 2023, Chief Stone and Lieutenant Thompson joined Town Administrator Travis Ahern, Fire Chief Cassidy, and Town Technology Director Chris Meo at the Holbrook – Regional Emergency Communication Center (RECC) to discuss the status of the E-911 Development Grant process.
  • On January 25, 26, 27, 30, and 31, 2023, School Resource Officer (SRO) Ciavarra attended a one-week long “Sexual Assault Investigators Course” at the Lynnfield Police Academy.
  • On January 27, 2023, Chief Stone held a Command Staff meeting with Lieutenant Thompson, Lieutenant Barrett, and Administrative Assistant Kelly O’Rourke.
  • On January 29, 2023, Lieutenant Chad Thompson reached twenty-two (22) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
  • On January 30, 2023 – February 3, 2023, Detective DiGiorgio attended a five-day “Basic Crime Scene Processing” course at the New England State Police Information Network (NESPIN) headquarters in Franklin, MA.
  • On January 30, 2023, Ms. Shannon Tuttle began working at the Holliston Police Department as our agency’s newest full-time civilian dispatcher.
  • On January 31, 2023, Lieutenant Thompson, Lieutenant Barrett, Sergeant Belson, Sergeant Remkus, Sergeant Hagan, Sergeant MacGray, and School Resource Officer (SRO) Woods attended an “Emergency Preparedness” training course at the Miller Elementary School.
  • On January 31, 2023 – February 2, 2023, Officer Coakley attended a three-day “Tactical Firearms Instructor” course at the Randolph Police Academy.
  • On January 31, 2023 – February 3, 2023, Dispatcher Brown attended a four-day “Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD)” online training course at the Holliston Police Department.
  • During the month of January, Sergeant/K-9 Hagan, and K-9 Mattis completed their mandatory 16-hours of in-service training with the Boston Police K-9 Unit.

Community Relations:

  • On January 10, 2023, Officers Charette and Parent conducted interviews for prospective college students interested in pursuing an internship with the Holliston Police Department.
  • On January 20, 2023, the Holliston Police Department partnered with Boston Children’s Hospital to host a community blood drive at the police station. Over two dozen pints of blood were donated in support of those benefiting from the care and treatment provided by Boston Children’s Hospital.
