A Pair of Holliston Players Crowned Free Throw State Champs

Katie Joslin and Jack McDonald each took first place at the Massachusetts Knights of Columbus Free-Throw Competition held on April 1 in Braintree.  McDonald made 24 of 25 free throw attempts to win the 14-year-old boys division while Joslin hit 20 of 25 attempts to win the 14-year-old girls division.  Each player competed in multiple rounds of competition over the last couple months which culminated with the state championship.

Joslin and McDonald both started playing basketball in kindergarten and recently closed out their Holliston Youth Basketball careers.  In the post championship media call, Joslin recalls her favorite youth basketball memory “scoring a game winning basket last season with four seconds left in the game.”  McDonald thought back to his 34-point performance in 5th grade as a lasting memory from youth basketball.

McDonald, who plans to play football, baseball, and basketball in High School, was asked after the competition how he stayed calm under pressure.  He replied, “You do not think, you just stay in your groove.”  Joslin was feeling good about her shot for the championship round after a strong warmup.  She stated after sinking her 20th shot, “I made my first three warm up shots which helped calm me and I didn’t think to much when I took the other 25 shots.”

Congratulations to Katie and Jack.
