The 2024 Holliston Flag Count Results Are In

Recently, while traveling in Scandinavia, we noticed Walter McClennen’s piece on the American Flag reposted in the Holliston Reporter. https://hollistonreporter.com/2024/06/of-this-flag-still-flying-free-2/

His piece reminded us that America’s 248th birthday was approaching, and we should start planning the annual Flag Count in Holliston. It also heightened our awareness of the flag displays in the countries we were visiting and as seen below, along with the Stars and Stripes at a Danish port.

This year’s hunt for symbols of our nation took us to from the heart of town to three neighborhoods distributed around town.  The results are tabulated below.

We thought it would be informative if we included the results from the past five years as points of comparison.

Those number crunchers in the audience will point to the smallish sample sizes included in these six random surveys across Holliston.  We, once again, invite other individuals and / or civic groups to join in what has become an annual event in our community.  You have 12 months to think about it and all it entails is counting the number of patriotic symbols (flags, wreaths, displays) you see.  We’ll remind everyone next year that more counters are needed.

    Chris and Yvette –
Thanks for continuing this great tradition you started. National flags are proud markers of our country through our best of decades and the worst of decades. Always good to see them hanging out and about through the town. You two have reminded us of that. Good job!
