Tips for the Holidays from Holliston’s Youth and Family Services December Newsletter

From Jaclyn Winer, Director

December is ripe with holiday activities as well as holiday stress.  The Bubble, newsletter of the Holliston Youth and Family Services, is a monthly treasure trove of useful information for all.  Here are a few highlights.

An article by Kirsten Rancourt, Community Therapist, “Progress, Not Perfection,” examines the terms resolution and intention.  Many of us set quite traditional New Year’s resolutions, yet modifying our mindset from goal achievement to journey awareness may present a welcome change.

Sarah White, MSW Intern, provides four helpful “Tips for Maintaining Sobriety During the Holidays.”  With so many gatherings planned, White’s resources offer a guide to help make plans.  Additionally, Rancourt has gathered a helpful directory of substance use/misuse resources, including crisis and help lines, meetings, support and guides.

An upcoming (fee) 8-week program entitled “Making Friends with Yourself,” (MFY) to be presented in Holliston, January 14-March 10, is detailed in the newsletter.  “Teens will engage in developmentally appropriate activities and carefully crafted practices and meditations that provide them with the opportunity to learn how to navigate the emotional ups and downs of life with greater ease. “
