When we were first asked to stay home back in March, new daily routines emerged working within the state mandated guidelines.  For some, this meant preparing many more meals at home, and for others it meant long shifts on the front lines.

Recognizing an emerging need, Holliston resident Jennifer Stucchi quickly set up a dinner pick up service on her front porch for those in need.  From the beginning, Jennifer said “I don’t need to know who you are, but don’t go hungry,” and posted her available dinners on Facebook for those unable to cook for themselves. Front line workers, families in need and elderly neighbors have received Jennifer’s chicken potpies, homemade pasta sauce and even pizza delivery.  

Jennifer’s kindness caught the attention of others wanting to help given the circumstances.  With the Passover and Easter holidays approaching, Jennifer led the charge to organize meals from our community to provide for our neighbors, as well as support local businesses. 

Individuals around town donated to Jennifer’s vision and volunteered to help provide holiday meals. Meals included ham from Out Post Farm, twice baked potatoes from Superette, vegetables from Bar Athena, salad and rolls from Bertucci’s, and dessert from Gaetano’s.  Additionally, treats from the Candy Cottage and a surprise for kids from Fiske’s were tucked into meal baskets for families with children.

Enough funds were raised to pay participating businesses full price for their contributions, giving them a boost to their slower-than-usual holiday business.  All together, the effort provided meals for over 120 people in our community. People helped by collecting the food contributions, assembling the meal packages and doing some deliveries as well. Excess funds will be used to continue Jennifer’s dinners going forward.  

Throughout this process, Jennifer has held the privacy and dignity of the recipients sacred.  She arranges private pickups, does not require any names to reserve meals, and is very sensitive to the circumstances many find themselves in these days.  This community bright spot surely demonstrates that kindness is contagious. The outpouring of donations and help made the holiday meals a true community effort, orchestrated with grace by shining star Jennifer Stucchi.
