Calling all Registered Democrats in Holliston

From Lisa Kaplan

Holliston Democratic Town Committee (DTC) members are hosting a virtual caucus to select delegates to attend the 2022 Massachusetts Democratic State Convention. The Holliston caucus will convene at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 12.  All Democrats registered to vote in Holliston are invited to participate and are encouraged to run for delegate to represent Holliston when nominating candidates for state-wide office, including Governor and Lt. Governor.

The caucus Zoom waiting room will open that morning at 9:30 a.m., where voter registration status will be confirmed. The ‘virtual’ waiting room doors will close at 10:15 a.m. Everyone in the waiting room at 10:15 will be admitted to the caucus. Anyone admitted after 10:15 will be designated as a guest and will not be able to run for delegate or to vote.

The caucus is open to the public and press, but only Holliston’s registered and pre-registered

Democrats are eligible to participate. Pre-registered Democrats must be at least 16 years old on the caucus date. Same-day registration is allowed. Delegates must be present at the caucus to be elected (except persons serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, with prior notice).

Democrats will be voting to elect 9 delegates and 4 alternate delegates to represent Holliston at the State Democratic Convention. Those not selected as a delegate or an alternate, and who meet the qualifications, can apply separately to be an add-on delegate in the following categories: youth, minority, disabled, LGBTQ+, or ask about being a convention volunteer. Caucus attendees requiring hearing-related accommodations will be able to use closed captioning through Zoom.

On Friday and Saturday, June 3 and 4, thousands of delegates from across the state will gather at the DCU Center in Worcester (or virtually via Zoom) to nominate candidates for statewide office. Those candidates who receive at least 15% of the convention delegates’ votes for each contested seat will be on the state’s Democratic primary ballot in September. Winners in the primary election will go on to be the Democratic nominees on the ballot in the General Election in November. Vying for a slot on the primary ballot at the Democratic convention will be state-wide candidates for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, and State Auditor. Delegates will hear the candidates speak on why they’ve chosen to run, what they hope to accomplish for Massachusetts residents, and why they are the best candidate for the job.
