. . . for two good reasons! On Sunday, May 1st, the Holliston Youth Baseball Association hosted a parade as part of its opening day festivities. This annual tradition returned after a hiatus thanks to a pandemic. On Star Wars Day (May the Fourth Be with You), Holliston students joined others across the Commonwealth on Walk, Ride, Roll to School Day. Below are some photos capturing these events.

When things quieted down, the players, coaches, and families of the HYBSA passed by. Those along the route were treated to a barrage of wrapped candies from the teams – imagine Halloween in May!

“Star Wars Day” was not as bright and warm – but the turnout of hearty souls was not diminished (it might have been the offer of coffee and donuts for all participants.) Escorting those on their way to Placentino, Miller, and Adams schools were several HPD personnel.

Chief Matthew Stone, Lieutenant Chad Thompson, and Detective Ciara Maguire were spotted in the crowd. Select Board Chair Tina Hein, the driving (walking?) force behind the Safe Routes to School efforts in Holliston was displaying her May the Fourth be with you spirit as the group passed by.

Hi-ho, hi-ho, it’s off to school we go. SGT Ken Belson (below left) provided motorcycle escort while School Resource Officer Bryan DiGiorgio provided traffic control at the intersections along the route from HPD headquarters to the elementary schools. And then everyone got to get inside out of the dampness. It’s great to see our young people out enjoying all that Holliston offers them!
