The Mudville Block Party – 2022 Style

After a hiatus to deal with the pandemic, the crazy Mudvillians blew out all the stops for this year’s Block Party.

There was a large organizing committee. Some of the unindicted coconspirators were Jon, Josh, Lee, Desiree, Kevin, and many others (you know who you are).

You’re not having a REAL Mudville party unless Bobby Blair is holding court. While these folks are looking at the camera, who has their eye on the little one heading to the dune buggy? (over Bobby’s shoulder)

On Saturday, September 10, 2022, from noon to 9pm it was even harder to drive through Mudville than normal because there was dancing in the street (Union that is).

Many of the participants signed their name on the Party sign. It’s hard to forget the band’s name when it’s written in chart on the pavement!

Neighbors and friends shared potluck food and beverages, listened to music by “Groove Stone,” scooped up some cool treats from the Juniper Farms ice cream truck.

Much of the time was consumed by, “Remarkably engaging conversations with ridiculously interesting people.” Who knew such people strolled the streets of Mudville.

Lots of wheeled vehicles were a vestige of the annual Bike Parade. The bounce house was rocking.
Jackie Napolitano (center), recently retired from the Holliston Water Department, found a safe seat out of the fray and loving every minute of it. Steve Napolitano, (left) reported that when he and Jackie were going to church early Sunday the street was in pretty good shape.
It is better to be lucky than good. I was lucky to be in just the right place to catch the action as the ice cream truck pulled up. Focus on the big kid in the straw hat with a crutch (aka Pete Guellnitz) making a bee line. He claimed it was Physical Therapy following his recent knee surgery.
Please note where the big kid in the straw hat is. Would he use his crutch to gain an unfair advantage?

It had already been a long day for this reporter, so I left at a respectable hour. I heard from Lee Motton (who was still along Union St. on SUNDAY!) that over 400 people attended – not bad since the posted population of Mudville is 354?

With all the royal news from across the pond, Mudvillians proclaimed their own monarchs, King Bobby and Queen Joanne. I’m pretty sure the distinction will not go to their heads.

King Bobby and Queen Joanne. The guy in the cool shades over Joanne’s shoulder is Lee Motton who provided this picture.

From all indications, a good time was had by all. Clear your calendar right now so you don’t miss next year’s Mudville party. Thank you to all the folks who planned / prepped for this outstanding event.

Looks like a blast! I remember very fondly the block parties when we were Mudvillians. They were so much fun, with Busha playing piano in the street and the frog jumping contest for the kids, not to mention the delicious burgers from the grill. I am happy to see that they are still happening! I miss Mudville!
