Meet The Next Holliston Reporter Publisher – Doreen Martel

Since the Cains announced their retirement from the Holliston Reporter, I have been giving a lot of thought to taking over as publisher.

I recently entered the “semi-retired” stage of life, and publishing the Holliston Reporter will fill those hours previously taken up by work. The saying, “timing is everything,” rings true for me.

For those of you who do not know me, I’ve lived in Holliston for about 20 years. I’m an active member of the Holliston Lions Club. My work background is diverse. I have an accounting certificate and I have completed a paralegal course. I’ve been self-employed for nearly 20 years and make my living as a writer for legal firms providing them with quality content for blogs and websites. As you can see, writing is nothing new for me, it’s what I do daily.

I want to say that I am a big believer in local news. Holliston news happens every day and in many places.  I want your help though! If you have an idea for a column, if you are involved in organizations across town, or if you are a regular attendee at any town committee meetings, please consider being a regular contributor. Whether that means once a week, or once a month, your voice will be welcome.

Before I made the decision to take over the helm of the Holliston Reporter, I reached out to some of our former team members and asked if they would be willing to consider contributing pieces for publication. I am pleased that many said yes. Most of these are voices you have heard over the years, and a few are new voices which I believe will help keep the publication as strong as it is today.

My goal is to continue the legacy that Chris and Yvette have established as a trusted source of local information. They have done a great service to the town during their stewardship of the Holliston Reporter.

Publishers’ Note: Doreen has established her Holliston Reporter e-mail address: hollistonreporter@doreenmartel.com

We anticipate an uneventful transition moving through the next few months. I will keep you up to date as we seamlessly transfer the publisher role / technology.  I’m fortunate that I have sufficient background in technology to be able to handle the platform in its current form.
