Rail Trail Central Street Crossing – Please Push the Button

The newly renovated Blair Square section of the Upper Charles Rail Trail has been reopened to trail users. With this multi-purpose installation, there are some safety reminders that seem appropriate: there are “rumble strips” of granite in the trail surface to caution bicyclists to slow down through Blair Square, and the Central Street crosswalk as rapid-flashing beacons to alert drivers to pedestrians.

The beacons have motion-detection devices that SHOULD automatically begin the flashing signal. Based on some recent casual observations (below), many times the beacons did NOT automatically flash.

The issue has been raised to the proper authorities, BUT until necessary recalibration can be done, PLEASE PUSH THE BUTTON attached to the beacon stanchion to ensure the beacons are flashing before venturing into the crosswalk.

Gentlemen of a certain age will know this safety approach as “belts AND suspenders.” Better to be safe . .

I remember when the old Dennison plant was there, great building, great people, great schools, great stuff in that town. Love Holliston. Great.
