HPD Monthly Update – June 2023

Personnel Highlights:

  • During the month of June, all department members reviewed Policy 4.17 “Harassment.”
  • During the month of June, all department members reviewed Policy 4.18 “Employee Early Intervention System.”
  • During the month of June, all department members reviewed Policy 4.19 “Electronically Controlled Weapons.”
  • On June 4, 2023, Dispatcher Liana Lodola reached five (5) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
  • On June 5, 2023, the Town of Holliston Human Resources Department began advertising for new police officer applicants.
  • On June 5 – 7, 2023, assessors from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC) were at the Holliston Police Department for our agency’s On-Site Assessment for accreditation. The assessment team consisted of Maynard Deputy Chief of Police Christopher Troiano, Grafton Police Sergeant James Crosby, and Uxbridge Police Department Josiah Morrissette. The On-Site facilitator on behalf of the Commission was Arlington Police Captain Paul Coughlin (Ret.)
  • On June 6, 2023, Lieutenant Barrett attended a one-day “MPTC -Instructor Recertification” course in Holyoke, MA.
  • On June 7, 2023, Officer Hulme attended a one-day “Law Enforcement Mental Health Seminar” at Fitchburg State University.
  • On June 8, 13, and 15, 2023, all officers attended a one-day “Taser Recertification and Handcuffing” course at the Holliston Police Department. The course was instructed by HPD Sergeant Belson and HPD Detective Avey.
  • On June 8, 2023, Lieutenant Barrett attended a one-day “MPTC -Instructor Recertification” course in Randolph, MA.
  • On June 9, 2023, Officer Griffith attended a half-day “Court Prosecutors Seminar” in Chestnut Hill, MA.
  • On June 12, 2023, Sergeant Hagan attended a one-day “K-9 Critical Issues” course in Methuen, MA.
  • On June 12, 2023, Lieutenant Barrett, School Resource Officer Woods, and School Resource Officer Ciavarra attended a “Meet & Greet” event with the finalists for the new Holliston High School principal.
  • On June 12, 2023, Sergeant Waugh, School Resource Officer Woods, Officer Grace, and School Resource Officer Ciavarra assisted Placentino Elementary School with their first school safety drill.
  • On June 15, 2023, Lieutenant Barrett held his monthly meeting with Court Prosecutor Griffith, Detective DiGiorgio, and Detective Avey.
  • On June 15, 2023, Chief Stone attended a one-day Strategic Planning session in support of the “Envisioning the Future of Holliston” initiative at the Holliston Town Hall.
  • On June 22, 2023, Lieutenant Barrett, Sergeant Remkus, Detective DiGiorgio, and Detective Avey assisted the United States Postal Inspectors Office, United States Homeland Security Investigations, and the Massachusetts State Police with a multi-jurisdictional police investigation here in Holliston.
  • On June 26, 2023, Chief Stone attended a “Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association School Safety and Security Subcommittee” meeting via Zoom.
  • On June 26, 2023, Chief Stone and Lieutenant Barrett joined Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kustka and part of her leadership team to participate in a “Say Something Anonymous Reporting System” meeting via Zoom in support of the Sandy Hook Promise.
  • On June 28, 2023, Officer Parent, Officer Hulme, and Officer Palencia attended a one-day “Officer-in[1]Charge” training in Mansfield, MA.
  • On June 29, 2023, Chief Stone attended a “Middlesex Chiefs of Police” meeting in Lincoln, MA.
  • During the month of June, Sergeant/K-9 Hagan and K-9 Mattis completed their mandatory 16 hours of in-service training with the Boston Police K-9 Unit.

Community Relations:

  • On June 6, 2023, Sergeant Waugh and Elder Affairs Officer Ciavarra attended a “Coffee with a Cop” event at the Holliston Senior Center.
  • On June 10, 2023, Sergeant Remkus participated in the annual “Cruiser Convoy” in Boston, MA in support of the Special Olympics of Massachusetts.
  • On June 14, 2023, Lieutenant Barrett and Detective DiGiorgio attended a “Recovery Court” graduation ceremony at the Framingham District Court.
  • On June 16, 2023, Chief Stone, Lieutenant Thompson, Lieutenant Barrrett, Detective DiGiorgio, Officer Grace, and School Resource Officer Ciavarra attended the Class of 2023 senior BBQ at the Holliston High School.
  • On June 16, 2023, members of the Holliston Police Department attended the annual “Touch-A-Truck” event at Placentino Elementary School.
  • On June 20, 2023, Chief Stone, Lieutenant Thompson, Sergeant Belson, School Resource Officer Woods, Officer Loftus, Officer Charette, Officer Grace, School Resource Officer Ciavarra, and Officer Keefe participated in the annual “Popsicles with Police” event at the Placentino and Miller Elementary Schools.
  • On June 26, 2023, Chief Stone, Lieutenant Thompson, Lieutenant Barrett, School Resource Officer Woods, and School Resource Officer Ciavarra delivered flowers to the Holliston High School to wish Principal Bottomley best wishes and good luck in her new position as the Principal of King Philip Regional High School.

Upcoming Events:

  • July 10th – 14th – Session #1 of the Holliston Junior Police Academy for students entering the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades will be held at Holliston High School. This is a FREE summer camp experience for Holliston residents.
  • August 1st – Members of the Holliston Police Department will be on hand at Goodwill Park for the annual “National Night Out” event being held in conjunction with the Holliston Parks and Recreation “Summer Concert Series.” Families are encouraged to stop by and meet your local police officers.
  • August 7th – 11th – Session #2 of the Holliston Junior Police Academy for students entering the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades will be held at Holliston High School. This is a FREE summer camp experience for Holliston residents.
