Double Celebrations Scheduled for September 30th

Drawing by John McPhee

Mother Nature turned into the wicked witch on Saturday forcing Celebrate Holliston organizers to cancel their scheduled parade and field day. The rained out event will take place next Saturday, September 30th, at Goodwill Park. The folk’s over in Mudville also have their block party scheduled for September 30th, and although both events will overlap time wise, Celebrate Holliston ending at 3 pm and Mudville starting at 12 noon, there should be enough activities at both venues to keep everyone happy.

The Mudville party predates Celebrate Holliston by eleven years but has not been continuous. Begun in 1981 the block party ran for several decades on School Street. Begun again several years ago on Pleasant Street and last year the setting was on Union Street. Organizers invite all Mudville residents, former Mudville residents and friends of Mudville to the festivities. Kids bike parade begins at 2 pm, along with a visit from the Tasty Food Truck from 2 pm to 7 pm. Live music is from 6 pm to 8 pm. Expect a visit from the ice cream truck. And a cotton candy machine will be onsite. Cornhole lawn games, street chalk and bubbles will be available for the kids. Evening fire pits to grill up those hot dogs will also be available to conclude activities at 9 pm. There will be a potluck table for everyone to bring their favorite beverage or home cooked goodies to share. Its all about community folks.

Don’t forget the 26th Annual Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Ride for Life starting at Fatima Shrine on September 30 starting at 8:00 and 10:00 am. The ride is 12 miles, 30 miles, and 65 miles depending on the route chosen.
