Local Student Finds Fencing Success

Emma Yang. She is 13 years old. In the recent USA Fencing Summer National Championship hosted at Phoenix in the Summer, Emma has won the 8th place and a national medal in the Y-14 women’s foil event. The Summer National Championship is the most important USA Fencing event of the year. This is a great achievement for Emma considering that most fencers in this event are one or two years older than her.

Here are Emma’s words about fencing –  I started fencing at the age of seven when my parents introduced me to the sport. I currently train at Star Fencing Academy at Needham MA with multiple coaches (head coach Kai and Shuang) who have helped me improve to become a national top fencer. Throughout my journey, I have dealt with many challenges emotionally and physically. Learning from my past mistakes and overcoming how to deal with my emotions has helped me not only to become a better fencer but also a better person, teaching me patience and virtue from this disciplined sport.
