Giving Tuesday is a movement which started in 2012 by Henry Timms at the 92nd Street Y in New York. The co-founding organization was the United Nations Foundation. Since then this group has sought to engage more communities in an event which shares kindness, compassion, and generosity. They promote the concept: “generosity not as a benevolence that the haves show to the have-nots but rather an expression of mutuality, solidarity, and reciprocity.”

If you, your business, or an organization you are involved in is participating in Giving Tuesday this year, please send us some information about how you are participating so we can advertise it on your behalf.

Giving Tuesday presents nonprofits with a day full of opportunities. Because many members of the general public now know what it is and may even set aside money each year to donate on that day, it’s the perfect chance for nonprofits to highlight their missions, solicit donations, and gain new supporters. They don’t have to be holding an event that day to be part of Giving Tuesday.

Some worthwhile organizations to donate to are any group supporting Israel as they are under siege, I donate to the ADL. You can also donate money to your local JCC, which is used to provide valuable services to the community including food banks and gender-affirming counseling for youth. I believe all of these are tax-deductible.
