300th Parade Committee Meets

The 300th parade committee met Wednesday night at the Parks and Recreation building at 1750 Washington Street. Committee co-chair Peter Barbieri confirmed that the parade date is locked in for Saturday May 11th. Start time is scheduled for 1 pm.

The parade is estimated to be two to two and a half hours in length. The parade route will begin at the top of Phipps Hill (corner of Washington and Highland Streets) and proceed through the center of town to East Holliston and Woodland Street to Lowland Street. The length of that route is 1.9 miles. Bathroom and first aid stations would be located along the parade route.

The is no rain date for the parade according to Barbieri, “if it pours we’ll cancel the parade, if light rain, bring your umbrella”. A reviewing stand will be in front of the town hall. When asked if any bands had been lined up, Barbieri stated “the push is now on”.

While the parade will ultimately line up on Highland Street, several scenarios were touted about, including units gathering at Lowland Street before being bused to Highland Street. Another option is gathering at the Woodland Street schools before being bused. Walking marchers would be able to access the schools at the end of the parade via Woodland Street as the road is safe for walkers at Factory Pond.

The next meeting of the committee is in early January, just a little over four months till parade time. The group is looking for anyone with a trailer or flatbed. Also, antique cars, horse drawn carriages and anyone willing to wear a clown suit. Barbieri can be contacted at Peterbholl@gmail.com and LaFlammme-celebratehollistonparade@gmail.com
