HOLLISTON INVITES PUBLIC INPUT ON THE POTENTIAL PURCHASE OF A PROPERTY

Town Has 30-Day Window to Decide Whether to Pursue the Purchase of the Vacant Gas Station in Downtown

HOLLISTON, Mass. January 4, 2024 – The Town of Holliston’s Select Board invites public comment during its next meeting on January 8,2024 at 7pm at Town Hall (or via zoom) to gauge the public interest in pursuing negotiations to purchase 799 Washington Street, the currently vacant gas station in the Downtown area, at the intersection of Washington, Green, Central and Exchange Streets.

Due diligence on the property will be done separately from public comment to avoid public discussions on the conditions and liabilities related to the property. Residents and businesses are encouraged to focus public comment on whether or not they would like to Town to be a part of addressing this property and its restoration. And if it has the potential to add value to the community and businesses.

The Economic Development Committee (EDC) will also weigh in on the discussion, along with the Economic Development Coordinator, Melanie Hamblen, at its meeting in January. For EDC meeting information, visit the Town website at https://www.townofholliston.us/economic-development-committee.

To submit public comment to the Select Board in advance of the meeting, please email muzzyd@holliston.k12.ma.us and be read into the record. What could we use it for? Non-profit resource center? Public Toilets? Senior Center Satellite facility? Teen center? Warming center? Homeless Shelter? Animal rescue center? Something we don’t have already.

I would do both. While my fondest wish would be to bring in a Jasper Hill type replacement with casual dining and music to enliven our sleepy downtown evenings, but any of the above sounds good, as long as we make use of this nicely located property/eyesore.

Need something to attract people to the downtown. Some sort of food or music establishment would be my vote. Love Coffee Haven but wish it was right there in the center. Feel like something like that would get a ton of business with how much traffic is on 16. I believe a tap room is coming in around March so something to compliment would be great.

A green space with a garden and tables and chairs/ benches.
People can purchase coffee, pastry and sandwiches from the Superette.
Beautify town and support a local business
