Using the revised Open Meeting Law guidelines outlined last month by Governor Baker, the Select Board held its weekly meeting from separate locations, with many citizens joining via Zoom and telephone conferences.

Everyone has a list of things that we’ll get to ‘someday.’ The pandemic has provided many somedays and this story chronicles one such project.

As we enter a new week and near the end of the month, I think it’s important to take stock of the “big picture” of this crisis. The recent data indicate that our statewide trends in terms of new COVID-19 cases, hospitalization rates, and deaths may be stabilizing but have not begun to decline meaningfully or consistently. This means that we are well-positioned to weather the “surge” without overwhelming our health care system, but we are not yet out of the woods.

On Thursday evening, April 23, the School Committee met in special session for an update on the COVID19 closure and the presentation of a proposal for a Computer Science Endorsement Program.

With school buildings now confirmed closed through the 2019-20 school year, there are a lot of valuable resources resting inside. The current need for personal protective equipment for front line workers is on many people’s minds and leaves us wondering how we can help while staying at home.

There was only limited news today, but I’d like to take the opportunity to encourage you to support neighbors who may be experiencing job or income loss. Our food pantries fill essential nutritional needs during this time and I encourage you to support your local pantry with either a monetary donation or needed grocery items listed on their websites.

The wind whipped across the field on Wednesday and the temperatures felt more like early March as several members of the local American Legion and farm community gathered to celebrate Earth Day.

Some churches have moved their services to different times – hence the updated schedule.

Some positive news from the Governor’s press conference today: our state’s Commissioner of Public Health, Dr. Monica Bharel, made her first public appearance since recovering from COVID-19 which she contracted last month.

Select Board Chair Mark Ahronian called the April 23, 2020 meeting to order at 7:13 (following an Executive Session). Pursuant to the revised Open Meeting Law, he invited those on the phone to identify themselves. Scott Moles, Holliston’s Health Director and several citizens were on the conference call.
