In late April I reached out to Matt Baker, the athletic director at the high school. My thought was that seniors were sad; spring athletes were sad, heck everyone was sad as we moved towards the end of the school year, many of us stuck in our houses. Was there a way to capture the equivalent of a “senior night” memory for any of them? Realizing there were a lot of senior athletes, I roped in two fellow photographers, Michele Heffernan and Mike DeCristofaro, who both agreed to volunteer their time to help.

Because the school grounds were closed, Matt could not authorize use of the fields or the uniforms.  HABA, Holliston Athletic Booster Association, stepped up, and we worked out a plan to go to families’ houses using telephoto lenses and masks. We asked the kids to wear anything Holliston they had at home. Michele, Mike and I divided up the teams, worked with each team’s HABA rep to communicate the idea and direct them to online signup sheets.

The end-results were old-fashioned photo shoots with a majority of the athletes. Every family that participated has access to high quality pictures to download; Matt Baker also has the photos and is planning his own project honoring the seniors; and I created 30-second videos per team that I am working to promote online.
