Holliston Lions Club December Festivities

The Holliston Lions Club is proud of what we have accomplished during 2021! We’ve worked hard to continue providing needed services in Holliston whenever we can! Here’s what we’ll be doing during December (among other activities!)

Photos With Santa
On December 5th you can join the Holliston Lions Club at the Senior Center from 9am to 12pm for photos with Santa, free hot chocolate and coffee. You can learn more about this on our website! Donations for Toys for Tots and the Holliston Pantry Shelf mean you get $1 off for each photo!

FINAL 2021 CLOSET CLEANUP

From 1pm to 4pm on December 5th, we’ll be doing our final clothing pickup and coat drive for 2021. Please review this information:
• Coats — all winter coats which are gently worn will be accepted. From toddler to senior, we will take your gently used coats and drop them at Anton’s Cleaners where they will be thoroughly cleaned and distributed to those who are the most in need. Please bag these coats up and mark the bag “COATS” so we can keep them separate from collected clothing.
Clothing — we are also collecting clothing in any condition! This clothing will be taken to Savers and we’ll use the funds to donate to Lions Club International Foundation disaster relief fund. Since July 2021, LCIF has awarded 55 disaster relief-related grants totaling $1,730,948! This includes grants to California for wildfire relief, North Carolina for the devastation caused by Hurricane Florence, and emergency grants in Florida for the flooding caused by Hurricane Michael.
Eyeglasses & Hearing Aids — year-round we collect eyeglasses and hearing aids. We donate the eyeglasses to a Massachusetts based program which was started by another Lions Club. The glasses are examined to determine their prescription, cataloged, and distributed to those who cannot afford glasses overseas. We also accept non-prescription glasses of all types. Hearing aids are repaired and distributed by a Lions Clubs partner organization to those in need across the United States.
Can Tabs — the Holliston LEO Club is proud of the work they do across our community and the aid they provide to neighboring communities. The LEO Club will be collecting can tabs — those little, tiny tabs you can find on cans of vegetables, soups, and soda! These tabs are donated to Ronald McDonald House to help them keep the costs of families staying there down to a minimum, so families have a safe, warm place to stay while their children are hospitalized. This is also an ongoing project.

LIGHT UP HOLLISTON

Once again, as part of our town holiday tradition, the local Lions Club and high school Leos Club volunteer to light up Holliston for the Holidays. Come to our tree lighting event at Blair Square beginning at 3:45pm on Saturday, November 27th and don’t forget to thank a Lion for once again bringing the holiday spirit to our town. Also, help fund our Light Up Holliston Campaign by donating on our Go Fund Me page. Don’t forget to check out the great photos we have on our website of the Lions & Leos putting the lights up!

HELP US HELP OTHERS

We Serve

You can help us help keep our friends and neighbors warm! The Lions Clubs across Massachusetts have been collecting 8X8 crocheted and knitted squares. If you have the ability to attach squares to each other, please consider joining us from 1pm to 4pm as we do just that. If you knit or crochet, we are also accepting donations of squares which you make! Ideally, the squares would be 8” X 8”, made from acrylic yarn (any color!), and have a “tail” on them to allow us to join them to the next square! We appreciate your support!

You can register at this link: https://www.cognitoforms.com/District33KLionsClubs/AttachingSquaresForAfghans
We’re also making hats for shelters across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. If you knit or crochet, we are accepting all handmade hats for men, women, and children. If you are dropping them off, please bag separately from coats or clothing and mark as “hats”. Thank you!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

The Holliston Lions Club is proud of all we have accomplished, and we are looking forward to doing even more in 2022. We depend on a committed group of volunteers to help us serve our community and to raise the funds we need to continue these programs. If you have a few hours a month to help out those in need, consider joining us! You can learn more about being a member of the Holliston Lions on our website!
