Needham, Mass. – At the Annual Meeting of the Boards of Trustees and Advisors, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham (BID Needham) announced one new member to the Board of Trustees, and six new members to the Board of Advisors. Mary E. “Beth” Manning, MD, MPH, has joined the Board of Trustees. Laura Ann Garelick, MD, Katherine Owens, Courtney Quinn, Lee Cohen Senderov, Timothy Sullivan, and Dara Warn have joined the Board of Advisors. Former Board of Trustees Chair Stephen Vanourny was also named Advisor Emeritus on the Board of Advisors.

“BID Needham is a small yet mighty community hospital, and we are grateful to have such talented and engaged leaders on our team,” said John Fogarty, president of BID Needham. “This is a special place, and the people who make up our hospital community – from the physicians and employees, to the board, to the patients, the volunteers, and to the community members who support us – continue to show unrelenting commitment and dedication to the hospital and to one another.”

Fogarty also announced a significant philanthropic gift to the hospital from the Mayer family, Donald and Roxanne Mayer and Donald’s mother Carol. This gift will support a key nurse educator role at BID Needham. Massachusetts Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development Rosalin Acosta was the guest speaker and participated in a panel discussion. Due to the COVID pandemic, this meeting, held at Powers Hall, was the first one held in-person in three years.

New Board of Advisors members:

Laura Ann Garelick, MD (Holliston)

Laura Garelick, MD, is Chief of Family Medicine and Director of the Medical Staff Peer Support Program at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham. Dr. Garelick is a primary care physician for patients of all ages at Beth Israel Lahey Primary Care – Medfield Family Medicine and served as the medical director of this practice for 11 years. Since 2019, she has worked alongside senior clinical director Heidi Alpert to conduct Leadership Institute retreats for the BID Needham medical staff, nursing, and administrative leadership. In 2020, Dr. Garelick joined Master Coach Margaret Moore, MBA, to facilitate “Skills for Our Pandemic Times,” a weekly virtual seminar to support leaders and medical staff at BID Needham. She is a member of the Beth Israel Lahey Health Wellness Advisory Committee charged with addressing workforce well-being and is a certified health and wellness coach.

Dr. Garelick received her Bachelor of Arts from Brown University in Human Biology and her Doctorate in Medicine from the Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University. She did her residency in Family Medicine at Franklin Square Hospital Center in Baltimore, Maryland where she served as chief resident.

Katherine Owens (Needham)

Katherine Owens recently joined the Noah’s Ark Preschool Administration team. Prior, Owens worked for many years in the reinsurance business, where she placed contracts with reinsurers for insurance companies looking to cover their risk. Subsequently, she moved to CNA Insurance and secured contracts to cover reinsurance needs. In her 15 years in Needham, Owens has been actively involved in the community. She served on the board of Parent Talk for many years, including leading the organization as co-president for a two-year term. She is actively involved in the Broadmeadow PTC and served as its vice president. Currently, Owens sits on several committees there, including the fundraising committee, and serves as the bookkeeper for the organization’s finances. Owens earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Mathematics from Colby College in 1999.

Courtney Quinn (Needham)

Courtney Quinn is vice president of Brand Strategy at Liberty Mutual Insurance. A Liberty Mutual employee for 13 years, Quinn has held several roles within LMIG’s consumer business unit, most recently as director of Innovation. Quinn’s experience prior to Liberty Mutual includes brand management roles at Kraft Foods, as well as market research and consulting for the telecommunications industry. Ms. Quinn earned a Bachelor of Arts from the College of the Holy Cross in 1996, and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina in 2005. She is a former chair of the BID Needham Board of Trustees.

Lee Cohen Senderov (Needham)

Lee Senderov is the Chief Revenue and Digital Officer at Foundation Partners Group, one of the largest funeral, cremation, and cemetery operators in the U.S. 

Senderov oversees digital marketing and revenue initiatives to ensure they meet business objectives, while providing compassionate and innovative services to families.

Prior to Foundation Partners Group, Senderov spent over a decade updating technology late-comers in industries lagging behind on digital transformation including auto repair and jewelry.

Senderov graduated from Brandeis University and received her Master’s of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.

Timothy Sullivan (Needham)

Timothy Sullivan is a real estate lawyer who handles real estate financing, complex land use matters, acquisitions, and dispositions. Sullivan advises developers, owners, and institutional investors on the acquisition, sale, and permitting of retail, office, industrial, multifamily, healthcare, life-science, and mixed-use properties. As a member of the Boston Bar Association and the American Bar Association, Sullivan has extensive experience working with planning boards, zoning boards, conservation commissions, boards of selectmen, and city and town officials, as well as various federal and state regulatory agencies, including Massachusetts Legal Services for the Homeless. He was named Boston Business Journal’s 40 under 40 leaders in 2019. Mr. Sullivan graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colby College in 2002, a Masters of Business Administration from Suffolk University Sawyer School of Management in 2006, and a Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School in 2006.

Dara Warn (Needham)

Dara Warn is the CEO of INE, a leading provider of technology training for cyber security, cloud, and networking professionals. Prior to joining INE, Warn served as President of Career Training at Penn Foster. Penn Foster is a leader in career-focused education to
learners across healthcare, skilled trades, veterinary health, and business sectors and serves over 300,000
learners annually. Warn is active in the local school community, previously serving as president of the Board of Hills and Falls Cooperative Nursery School and in various roles within the Parent Teacher Council at Needham’s elementary schools. Warn graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Pennsylvania.

Advisor Emeritus:

Stephen Vanourny (Wellesley)

Stephen Vanourny is co-founder and President of Continuum Capital Managers, LLC, an investment partnership focused on asset, wealth management and financial technology businesses. 
Prior to Continuum, Vanourny was the global head of strategy and ran a global investment analytics business providing risk management and other decision support analytics to institutional investors. Vanourny joined State Street in 2010 from Partners Capital. Previously, he was a partner with McKinsey and Company. Vanourny serves on the boards of a number of private firms in the asset management and financial technology space.
Vanourny earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Dartmouth College and his Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. Vanourny was previously a member of the BID Needham Board of Trustees since 2008, serving as Chair from October 2017 to September 2021. Mr. Vanourny also serves on the Beth Israel Lahey Health Investment Committee.

New Board of Trustees member:

Mary E. “Beth” Manning, MD, MPH (Needham)

Dr. Manning is a primary care physician at Beth Israel Lahey Health Primary Care – Chestnut Street. She attended medical school at George Washington University School of Medicine and completed her internship, residency, and chief residency at University Hospital in Boston, now Boston Medical Center. Dr. Manning completed her internal medicine fellowship with a concentration in epidemiology at Boston Medical Center (BMC) and her Master’s in Public Health at Boston University School of Public Health. During her 20 years at BMC, her focus was primary care and medical education. She served as an Assistant Program Director and then Associate Program Director for the Boston University School of Medicine Internal Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Manning has also served as director for a course for primary care providers for over 15 years, now renamed BILPC Updates and Essentials in Primary Care. In 2010, Dr. Manning left BMC to work as a primary care doctor at Beth Israel Lahey Health Primary Care – Chestnut Street. She has served on the Medical Executive Committee and the Medical Education Committee at BID Needham, as well as the Provider Advisory Board for APG, now BILH Primary Care.
