Week #2: Holliston Senior Softball Wrap-Up (thru 4/22/23)

RAINED OUT!!!  With Wk #2 washed out, I thought I’d go to the archives for this week’s column.  Hope you enjoy….

Week #5: Holliston Senior Softball Wrap-Up: (thru 5/16/21)

DYR 8 Jasper Rock 7:

For the second week in a row, DYR jumped out to a big lead, then decided not to score for the next 4 innings but, this time, they held on to beat Jasper thanks to the rocket arm of CF Jay Miller.  Top of the 7th, one out and the tying run, 3B Doug Herman on second, Jasper 2B Neil Kutchman bounced a single up the middle that Herman tried to score on.  Miller charged hard and fired a laser to C Mark Eagan to nab Herman by a step preserving the 1-run lead.  DYR starter Justin Lessard who, kept the red-hot Jasper bats off-balance all game, then induced a ground-out to end it.

DYR OF Jay Miller unleashes his throw that nailed Doug Herman at the plate to preserve an 8-7 win.

Kampersal 30 Lions 0:

In a see-saw affair, Kampersal edged Lions, 30-0 as C Brian McShane led the way w 5 hits and 8 RBI’s while OF Tom Kampersal collected his first multi-hit gm (both in the Top of the 7th) of the season and now leads the team in hits from the 7th inning on.  Postgame, Lions let the accusations fly around Kampersal starter, George Kampersal and a possible foreign substance on his hat he kept going to during the game.  The Kampy’s pitcher flatly denies the allegations.

Homeplate umpire, Mike Woods inspects the hat of P George Kampersal during the 6th inning.  No substance was found, nor was any offense found in the Lions dugout.

Downtown 10 Queens 4:

Nothing further to report here as Downtown has stopped showing up at Anthony’s post-game following their 2-gm losing streak and were forced by manager John Potemri to ‘get back to basics’ and watch the famous Tom Emanski videos on playing fundamental baseball.

Hall of Famer Fred McGriff approves.

Mudville 15 South 10:

Mudville knocks South from the unbeaten ranks and creates a 3-way tie for first now in the ‘A’ division.  1B Errick Spada blasted mammoth 3-run HR in the 5th to put Mudville ahead and SS Eric Kuharich iced the game with a 2-out double that scored 2 in the 6th.  Kuharich’s team seems to have found their ‘swagger’ and he’s not afraid to let others know as he marched around the Anthony’s dining room yelling ‘Giant Killers!’.  Seems his confidence has spread throughout their line-up.

Mudville Manager Eric Kuharich postgame at Anthony’s letting others know who is #1.

South LF Jason Smith was kind enough to join his teammates this week despite the 75th birthday of his aunt’s sister’s 3rd cousin in-law.  His commitment to the team is truly inspirational.

 Braggville 15 Brentwood 2:

A bounce back win for Braggville as the smothered Brentwood, 15-2 despite the absence of All-Star LF Dan Kittredge whose consecutive games played streak came to an end at 236.  Seems Kittredge needed emergency dental work for a tooth that was damaged when he tried to eat a microwaved chocolate doughnut too quickly.

Kittredge feeling good post-op and appears he will avoid a stint on the DL.

Dalton Rd 13 Johnson North 12:

After their HUUUUGE win last week against Bragville, this week’s contest vs the winless (but young & dangerous) expansion team, Johnson North, was the definition of a “trap game”.  Dalton almost delivered the letdown we were hoping for but, they held off the young bucks for the win.  OF Tim McDevitt added 3 more hits to his league-leading 21 and fellow OF Jack Kober collected 3 hits and scored 4 times to pace Dalton Rd.  Reliable sources tell me Johnson North held a mid-week practice as the look to get their first win.

Paparazzi photo taken of Johnson North’s mid-week practice.

Anthony’s East 21 The Hood 6:

And then there was one!! Anthony’s pummeled The Hood to remain the lone undefeated team behind the work of veteran P Jim Cormier who gave up just 3 ER in the win.  The offense was led by SS Mike DelPrete who went 5 for 5 with 6 RBI and C Jack Connors who had 4 hits and 5 RBI.

GAME OF THE WEEK for WK #5 (5//23/21)

Dalton Rd (3-2) vs South (4-1): @ Kampersal 6pm

  • Can South rebound from their first loss of the year versus red-hot, yet schizophrenic, Dalton Rd.?  With this game falling on National Wetlands Day, will South LF Jason Smith be able to make it?
  • We’ll have a full report of this game next week.

Division A Standings through 16 May 2021
