Week 10:
Kampersal smacked South, 19-4 thanks to OF Brad Rowe (3-4, 2B, 3R) and 1B Alex ‘The Big Hurt’ Kampersal (3-4 HR, 2B, 2R, 3RBI) who partnered to put the home team up 2 in the first. A single by Rowe was followed by a 2-R HR by Kampersal down the LF line that OF Dave Franco (2-3. 2B, BB, R) almost caught. Kampersal would go on to score 7 in the 2nd led by a SS Tim “Ozzie’ Swift (3-3,2B, 2R, 3RBI) 2-run double and a OF Bill Sticka (3-4, 2B, 2R, 4RBI) bases clearing double to extend the lead to 9. Kampersal, again, excelled defensively and wouldn’t allow South to create any momentum while extending their lead by scoring in every inning. P George Kampersal (7IP, 8H, 4R, 3BB) pitched well in the win but the walks are still troublesome and needs to be rectified quickly beforehand Sunday’s Championship Game. Some video review and breakdown of mechanics are in store, according to Manager, Tom Kampersal. The Big Hurt also delivered postgame as he prepared an ice-cold cooler of beers for his mates that was well-received in this heat.
Speaking of postgame, while Kampersal was setting up their tailgate and breaking out the coolers, South seemed genuinely dumbfounded by the scene. They circled the tailgate like cavemen seeing fire for the first time.

As predicted, Dalton Rd beat Johnson North, 9-4 as 2B Brendan Hines (3-4, GS, 5RBI) delivered the knock-out blow with his 2nd inning grand slam to put ‘the Fighting Cotto’s’ up 8-1 and they never looked back. P Chris Munroe (7IP, 9H, 3ER) added another quality start to his resume and kept that young, powerful line -up off balance all night. OF Ty Cotto (2-3, 2B, R) made a sensational over-the shoulder catch in the 4th on a bomb hit by 2B Dave ‘Big Tree’ Lyskowski (2-3, 2B) with 2 on and 2 out that ended a Johnson North scoring threat. Some poor baserunning in the 5th squashed another Johnson North scoring opportunity as a runner ran through a stop sign at 3rd and was thrown out by 12 feet. The win sends Dalton to the ‘A’ Championship game vs Kampersal in a rematch of their week 7 contest.

Kingz jumped all over Jasper Rock, 17-10 as the offense pounded out 23 hits led by 3B Ross Dubuc (3-4, HR, 2B, 2R, 4RBI) and LF Ryan Smith (4-4, 2B,3R, 4RBI). Down 8-0 in the 4th, Jasper got on the board with a pair thanks to OF Jared Esposito (4-5, 2B, 2R, 3RBI) and P Derek Cordon (5-5, 2 2B, 3R, 4RBI) who both hit back-to-back run-scoring doubles. Employing 3 outfielders again, Jasper was unable to keep this close as Kingz hit the outfield gaps on multiple occassions. No word on whether C Greg Williams was in attendance but Jasper management will have to address Williams’ commitment level this offseason and plan accordingly. This game marked the final contest for Kingz OF and all around good -dude, Matt Brooks who is moving to NC to begin a new chapter. All the best, Brooksy..

Anthony’s edged DYR, 31-5 as everyone in the lineup had at least 2 hits. (Shoutout to Commissioner Cordon for scheduling this one at Patoma for lefty-dominate Anthony’s.) Pacing the offense were OF Travis Jonassen (6-7, HR, 4 2B, 5R, 9RBI), OF Mike DelPrete (6-6, 2B, 4RBI), and SS Dave Robinson (5-6, 2B, 5 R, 5RBI.) After DYR cut the lead to 16 in the 3rd, the sweet-swinging lefty Jonassen, with 2 on, decided he was bored with hitting into the Patoma woods and went 575 ft to LCF for a 3-run shot that landed along the 1B dugout on the other field. P Chris Landers (7IP, 9H, 3ER) was in control throughout and picked up the easy win.

Braggville walked off Mudville, 10-9 thanks to a P Chris Conners (3-4, 2B, 3RBI & 7IP, 9H, 6ER) bases loaded single between 3rd and SS. The normal, sure handed 3B for Mudville chose to celebrate his son’s HS graduation like he did when a teammate brought massage oil to the post game tailgate and was unable to play the field costing his team a chance for the win. Mudville 1B Erick Spada (3-4, 2B, 3RBI) had a clutch 2-out, 2 RBI single in top of the 7th to put his team up 1 but, Braggville and Conners would answer back in their half of the 7th thanks to a leadoff double by 3B Chad Engle (3-4, 2B, 2R) and a single by SS Jason Cooper (3-3, R, RBI) that would set the stage for Connors. Mudville (really, Kuharich and Spada) tried stirring the pot in this one claiming Braggville was using a non-rostered player but, upon further investigation, no infraction was uncovered by your humble correspondent.

The Hood beat Lions, 14-10 as P Colin Fields (3-4, 2B, 4RBI) and OF Dan Mauro (3-4, 2B, 3R, 2RBI) paced the victors. Trailing 9-6 headed into the bottom of the 6th, The Hood exploded for 8 runs highlighted by a Fields bases-clearing double. The Lions were led by OF Jeff Blossom (2-3. 2R, 2RBI) and 2B Jon Tapper (3-3, 2R, 2RBI) who each drove in 2 in their 5-run 3rd. P Pete Barbieri (7IP, 10H, 6ER) picked up the hard-luck loss. Sad news to report in this one as Hood veteran Shawn Peters (2-3, R, RBI) pulled his hamstring attempting to score from 2B on a single to CF. No word on if he’ll be available for the season finale.

Downtown beat Brentwood, 14-2…..
COMMUNITY NOTES:
- Special thanks to Downtown’s own Jack Hendler (Owner of Jack’s Abby) for providing 2 cases of his new beer “Masshole’ Lager to each team. Well done, Jack!
- Looking forward to the yr-end banquet this Sunday to celebrate another successful HSS season by crowning the ‘A’ Champs and ridiculing the team going down to ‘B” with DYR. (50-50 chance that Derek recognizes this column in his yr-end announcements) See u then!
GAME OF THE WEEK for Wk 10 6/29/25))
Dalton Rd. (7-2) vs. Kampersal (8-1) at Damigella @ 6pm
- Can Kampys avenge their only loss in Wk. 7 that ended their 26-gm winning streak? Will that championship pedigree rise to the occasion?
- Can upstart Dalton Rd and their young guns handle the pressure of being in the championship gm vs the veteran, 3x defending champs?
*Prediction: Kampersal 12- Dalton Rd 8
(My Record: 8-1)
