On Saturday July 4th at 11 am, the Declaration of Independence will be read in front of Holliston Town Hall. Five of the delegates who signed the Declaration never lived long enough to see the fruits of their labor. Five were captured as traitors, and tortured by the British before they died.
The Declaration will be divided into thirteen different segments and read in the order of which states signed with their John Hancock’s.
Taking part in the reading will be some town notables including, Mike Cassidy – Fire Chief Charlie Jacobs – VFW, Martin Spellacy – American Legion, Stacey Raffi – Massachusetts Heroine, Mark Ahronian – Businessman, Paul Saulnier – Historical Society, Bill Mayer – former Town Moderator, John Paltrineri – Fiske’s, John Cronin – former Select Board, Karla Alfred – town activist, John Shannahan – Mudville Ball Team, Kevin Conley – former Selectman, and Frank Gervasio – Town Manager.
Chris Cain the former owner of the Holliston Reporter will be the Master of Ceremonies, Ron Turcotte the VFW Chaplain will lead those present in prayer and Rep. James Arena DeRosa will give the keynote speech. Town Historian Joanne Hulbert will give a brief talk about Holliston’s doings during the revolution A rifle salute and wreath laying at the Minuteman Memorial along with taps by Joe Cibotti will conclude the ceremony.
Townspeople are invited to breakfast from 8 am to 10:30 am at Mt. Hollis Lodge just three doors up from town hall.
