Albert Joseph Savino, 91, of Holliston, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. Born in Union City, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Florence (Bugasch) Savino. He was the husband of 71 years to his beloved wife Barbara (Ruehl) Savino.
Al married Barbara (Barb) in 1955, and he went on to honorably serve in the United States Army from January 17, 1957, to January 16, 1959. Al became an avid runner and fitness enthusiast who enjoyed staying active throughout his life. In his younger years, Al participated in cross-country skiing, was an accomplished ten-pin bowler, and shared a game of pool in Jersey City with one of the greats, Willie Masconi. He was also a dedicated Boston Red Sox fan and was passionate about his daily cigar to complete the day. He and Barb thoroughly enjoyed watching and discussing documentaries and movies, logging over 3,500 films on his impressive Excel spreadsheet.
Affectionately known to many as “Big Al”, Al was a comedic family man and was a friend to all he met. He was immensely proud of his work with the NCR Corporation for nearly 40 years, with stints in Ohio and New Jersey, and finally settling in Holliston with his family in 1969. NCR was a very special part of Al’s life. He absolutely loved the camaraderie of working with fellow employees and formed long-term friendships with many, ultimately retiring in 1994 as Regional Director for New England.
Al and Barb also spent many a year traveling across Europe and the US, with their most memorable trip being to Alaska, and the annual summer family vacation to Weld, Maine. Al was also honored to serve as a head usher for over 50 years at Christ the King Lutheran Church.
In addition to his wife, Al is survived by three grateful sons, Mark Savino and his wife, Joanne, of Stow, MA, Jeff Savino and his partner, April Robinson, of Holliston, and Jimmy Savino and his wife, Michelle, of Framingham. He also leaves behind his sister, Anne Twight; his grandchildren Bobby, Katie, Gwen, George, Henry, Albert, Matthew, and Hannah. He is predeceased by his sister, Florence Dempsey, and brothers-in-law, Pat and Jack.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 1, at 11:00 am at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Holliston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 600 Central St., Holliston, MA 01746. Interment will be held privately.
