Close to a Thousand Rallied in Holliston for Hands Off! Day of Action

HOLLISTON, MA – Residents from Holliston and surrounding towns gathered peacefully on Saturday, April  5, in front of the Congregational Church and Town Hall as part of the national Hands Off! demonstration.

The local event, marked by handmade signs, American flags and a joyful sense of community, called attention to growing public concern over recent executive actions threatening marginalized communities and programs critical for all of us. The event was peaceful, with no police intervention necessary. Several hand counts put the total number present at over 1,000.

Demonstrators voiced opposition to policies that put Medicaid, Social Security, care for veterans, and other critical programs at risk while raising the cost of living and threatening Americans’ retirement savings. They decried policies that eliminate jobs, departments, and agencies without cause or reasonable planning; that endanger public health; and that harm vulnerable people.

Colorful signs shared messages, including:

  • “It’s not left or right, it’s right or wrong!”
  • “In unity there is strength!”
  • “Protect the Constitution”

In addition to the local rally, car pools and a bus from Holliston carried residents to the larger Boston demonstration, where nearly 100,000 people marched in unity. Nationwide, an estimated 3 to 5 million Americans participated in Hands Off! actions. As in Holliston, these events remained peaceful and positive.

The next day of action will take place Saturday, April 19 from noon – 1 PM, where members of the Holliston Democratic Town Committee will gather cash donations for the Holliston Food Pantry.
