Hi! My name is Jessica Ommen, proud candidate for Holliston School Committee. I have lived in Holliston for ten years with my husband and three children. I have been a Lead Classroom Coordinator at Placentino for the last 3 years and take every volunteer opportunity I can. I am running for School Committee this year because I believe in a brighter future for our students and the greater Holliston community. With my youngest starting Kindergarten this fall, I will have plenty of time to dedicate to being your representative.
I am a Project Manager but have been a full-time Stay-At-Home-Mom since the pandemic. I believe the skills I possess as a Project Manager give me a unique edge as I am able to successfully negotiate with key stakeholders, work collaboratively with teams, lead efficient meetings, manage budgets, and build successful plans. This is a skill set that I believe will add value to the School Committee and result in a decision-making process that is inclusive of community input.
I know how important it is to be heard, which is why I plan to make myself available to the community as much as possible. When working with teachers and administrators, I will do it from a community lens, ensuring that your voice is part of the discussion. As your elected representative, I will make sure your concerns are addressed in meaningful ways as we consider professional recommendations from our administrators, staff, and teachers.
I believe transparency and communication are a vital function of this role. Families are an integral part of their children’s education which is why I am committed to improving upon communication strategies that will foster a sense of trust between schools and families. Furthermore, because taxes play such an integral role in our school’s funding, it is imperative that we remain transparent with the entire community about our district’s progress and spending. That is why I am committed to improving upon communication strategies that will cultivate community engagement, not just for families with children in the schools, but for the entire community.
Lastly, I believe every child deserves the opportunity to succeed in an environment that supports their individual strengths. That is why I am dedicated to providing inclusive educational opportunities for all students, enhancing academic programs, and supporting the whole-child through a nurturing and diverse environment. Each child has their own unique strengths and I believe in hiring teachers, staff, and administrators who are dedicated to meeting students where they are in all subject areas and nurturing their strengths in an effort to prepare them for life after Holliston Public Schools.
While Holliston schools have faced challenges in recent years, I believe this is a pivotal moment for us to come together, refocus, and restore the excellence our schools are known for. I am running for School Committee because I believe deeply in the potential of our students, educators, and community. Our children deserve strong advocates and thoughtful leadership—people who are committed to collaboration, transparency, and progress. I bring the time, energy, and dedication needed to listen, plan, and work toward meaningful solutions that support all students. I believe strong schools are the foundation of a thriving community and I’m committed to ensuring that Holliston Public Schools continue to grow, excel, and reflect the values that make Holliston the flourishing community we love.
