HOLLISTON, MA — Nearly 600 residents from Holliston and surrounding towns gathered in front of the Congregational Church and Town Hall on Saturday, April 19. They joined more than three million Americans in a nationwide call to protect essential federal programs and stand in solidarity with vulnerable communities.
The festive, family-friendly gathering featured a sea of bubbles, a performance by the Diverse Holliston Choir, and even a visit from the Easter Bunny, highlighting the community’s unity and hope in the face of harmful federal policy changes. Demonstrators protested cuts to critical federal programs that serve America’s children, working families, veterans, and others. Participants held signs supporting the Constitution, unity in the face of tyranny, and the rights of marginalized communities. They also emphasized the economic hardship Trump Administration policies will bring to those most vulnerable among us, including those living in poverty, people with disabilities, and the aging.
In the spirit of unity and support, the Holliston Democratic Town Committee (HDTC) gathered cash donations for the Holliston Pantry Shelf. In total, $870 was gathered to help the local organization. “We’re not just speaking out against harmful policies—we’re showing up for each other,” said HDTC Chair Cynthia Burrow. “It’s about weaving a safety net for our most vulnerable neighbors as the economy worsens.”
The next day of action will take place on May Day, Thursday May 1. Details about upcoming local events can be found at https://maydaystrong.org/ and by signing up with the MWN Action Hub (bit.ly/Action-Hub), a collaboration of local organizations.
