Week #3:

Johnson North clipped South, 9-7 as P Dave ‘Big Tree”Lyskowski (7IP, 8H, 4ER) spun a gem and helped his caused with some great defense in the circle by snaring 3 line drives back at him. The final grab came with the tying run on 1st and OF Dave Franco (2-3, 2B, 2R) up who lined one back up the middle that Dave used all of his 6’6” frame to catch.  Johnson’s D was sharp all night as OF Ross Weisman (2-4, 2 RBI) made a few nice catches in CF to keep South off the board.  Tied at 7 in the 7th, Johnson 3B Chris Stanek (3-4, 2B 3RBI) delivered a 2-run double that scored OF Shawn Whitehead (2-3, 2R) with the go-ahead run.

South welcomed back P Greg Copeland (7IP, 9H, 5ER, 3K) who was on a 2-wk vacation in the Carribean to miss the start of the season but pitched well in defeat despite a bad sunburn.

Anthony’s took down Lions, 10-2 in approximately 36 minutes as P Chris Landers (7IP, 6H, 1ER) cruised in this one.  Offensively, Anthony’s was led by LF Ben Pratt (3-4, HR,2B, 4RBI) and 3B Dan Higgins (2-3, 2B, 2R) while Pratt also made a terrific catch to rob OF Ned Daniels (2-3, 2B, RBI) of extra bases in the 7th. Interesting situation brewing for Landers as he seems to have contracted ‘Steve Sax Disease’ and cannot throw the ball to 1B on a comebacker.  He makes 50 Cent look like Dwight Gooden.  We’ll keep an eye on this as the season progresses as Anthony’s aims to make the Final 4- may be a factor.

DYR took Kingz to the Woodshed, 23-5 as SS Jason MacDonald (4-5, 2 2B, 4 RBI, 3R) and 3B Zach Raymond (4-4, 2 2B, 5 RBI, 3R) led the onslaught. DYR jumped out to a 17-0 lead after 3 thanks to some poor Kingz defense that ’25 Fall Ball Champion and Storm Alumni P Pat Snow (7IP, 20H, 6ER) did not deserve.  Kingz finally got on the board in the 3rd with a Ross Dubac (3-4, HR, 2RBI) solo blast over the fence in LCF but couldn’t put together a meaningful rally to close the gap. 2B Jason Morrel (4-4, 2R) and ’25 Fall Ball Champion and Storm Alumni OF Joe ‘professional hitter’ Robbins (3-4, 2B, RBI) were bright spots for Kingz in defeat.  Rookie DYR OF Pat McClay (4-5, 2B, 4R) showed off his arm again with another outfield assist to end the game with a laser to the plate to nail a Kingz runner trying to cut their deficit to 17, his 4th one this yr.

A scene that occurred all too often for Kingz Sunday nite versus DYR.

Jasper Rock clipped Mudville, 7-4 thanks to a Neil Kuchman (3-4, GS, RBI) grand slam in the top of the first that gave them a lead they would never relinquish.  Kuchman’s bomb was set up by a swinging bunt by power hitting 3B Doug Herman (2-4, 2B, R) that barely made it to the 3B bag staying fair the whole way allowing everyone to advance.  Trailing 6-1 in the 6th, Mudville rallied for 3 runs thanks to a 2-run double by OF Chris  Bogusky (3-3, 2B 2RBI) but Jasper answered with another run in the top of the 7th on a double by OF Jared Esposito (4-4, 2B, RBI, 2R) that scored OF Jeremy Cordon (2-4, 2R) to provide breathing room.

The Hood beat Brentwood, 16-10 as SS Greg Andreola (4-4, HR, 2B, 5RBI) and C Bruce Stebbins (3-3, 2 2B, 3R) paced the victors.  The Hood jumped out to an early lead thanks to the return on of 2B Tyler Bennet (4-4, 2RBI) whose 1st inning double drove in 2.  Andreola also shined defensively with a web gem in the 4th where he made an over-the-shoulder catch on a pop up into shallow LF with 2-men on and 2 out.

Kampersal squeeked by Downtown, 27-8 behind 1B Alex’The Big Hurt’ Kampersal (4-5 HR, 2B, 4RBI) and OF Brad Rowe (4-5, 2 2B, 3B, 4R) who paced this historic offense (75 runs in 3 gms). Rookie OF Matt Kampersal (5-5, 2 2B, 3RBI, 3R) seems to have figured out the wooden bat thing and is raking these past 2 weeks.  After his HR in the 2nd, the Downtown OF played Alex in Millis, yet the Big Hurt still was able to split the LF/LC gap for a double to drive in 2 more and the beat down was on.  Downtown was led by 1B Greg Wright (3-4, 3 RBI) and OF Tim McCarron (3-4, 2B, 2RBI, R) while P Mike Adams (7IP, 31 H, 20 ER) still struggled in the circle but, to be fair, Pedro Martinez would struggle vs that line up.

.

Dalton Rd whacked Braggville, 19-9 behind 3B Kevin Lauze (3-5, HR, 2B, 3RBI, 3R) and SS Brendan Hines (4-5,HR, 3RBI, 3R).  Up 4 in the 2nd, Dalton extended their lead to 7 on a 3-r HR from OF Christian Carroll (2-4, HR, 3RB1, 2R) to provide P Ty Cotto (7IP, 9H, 5ER) the support he needed to shut down the Braggville bats.  Enforcing the old adage that pitchers can’t hit, Ty promptly struck out swinging in the 5th and was taunted mercilessly by his Dad and brother for the remainder of the game (and into the post gm fesitivities).  Braggville couldn’t get anything going offensively against the youngest Cotto but did discover they have a solid glove at 3B as Dave Bennett (2-4, 2B, R) made 3 diving plays in the early innings to keep his team in the game until the Lauze and Hines HR’s in the 5th and 6th.

GAME OF THE WEEK for Wk 4 (5/10/26)

Anthony’s East (2-1) vs. Braggville (0-3) at Patoma @ 6pm

  • There should be some softballs launched in the RF woods in this one as both teams have some pop in the line up that can take advantage of the friendly confines of Patoma.
  • Anthony’s has too much lefty fire power to not take this one.

*Prediction: Anthonys’ 21  Braggville 12

(My Record: 2-0)
