HPD Updates for November and December 2020

PERSONNEL HIGHLIGHTS

November

  • During the month of November, all sworn members of the Holliston Police Department successfully completed their CPR/First Responder in-service training.
  • During the month of November, all department members reviewed the “Conflict of Interest Law” update and “Policy 1.16 Handling the Mentally Ill.”
  • On November 2, 2020, Lieutenant Thompson conducted an “On Duty” scheduling software training with School Crossing Guards Ellis, Spera, and Russo.
  • On November 4 – 5, 2020, Lieutenant Thompson and Lieutenant Leurini assisted the Franklin Police Department with their mock accreditation assessment as they work toward certification through the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC).
  • On November 5, 2020, Sergeant Belson and Officer Avey completed their annual defensive tactics instructor re-certification at the Boylston Police Academy.
  • On November 6, 2020, Officer Grace attended a one-day “Drugged Driving: What to do?” training seminar at the Andover Police Department.
  • On November 6, 2020, Sergeant Waugh conducted a CPR recertification training with Crossing Guard Jean Spera at the Holliston Police Department.
  • On November 9, 2020, the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC) voted to award Accreditation the Holliston Police Department. This prestigious status has been awarded for another three-year period ending in September 2023. Re-accreditation demonstrations the Holliston Police Department’s ongoing commitment to delivering an exemplary level of police service in our community.
  • On November 9, 2020, Chief Stone and Sergeant Belson attended the wake of their academy classmate; fallen Hamilton Police Officer Michael Wetson in Beverly, MA.
  • On November 10, 2020, Lieutenant Leurini attended a one-day “Assessor Refresher” training course hosted by the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC) via Zoom.
  • On November 12, 2020, School Resource Officer Digiorgio attended a one-day “Juvenile Law: Police Legal Training Course” at the Barnstable Police Department.
  • On November 16 – 20, 2020, new Full Time Dispatcher Gina Moscillo and new Per-Diem Dispatcher Daniel Nash completed their five-day “Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) – Public Safety Telecommunicator” training course at the Holliston Police station.
  • On November 16, 2020, Chief Stone, Lieutenant Thompson, Lieutenant Leurini, Sergeant Dalrymple, Sergeant Waugh, Detective Maguire, Officer Downey, and Officer Coakley attended the funeral services of retired Holliston Police Officer Norman Gillen in Webster, MA. Officer Gillen retired from the Holliston Police Department in 1999 after serving the Holliston community for over 45 years.
  • On November 17, 2020, Chief Stone and Interim-Superintendent Kustka attended Middlesex District Attorney’s annual “Superintendents and Chiefs Breakfast” via zoom.
  • On November 19, 2020, Sergeant Waugh attended a one-day “Fair and Impartial Policing Course” hosted by the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) in Southbridge, MA.
  • On November 24, 2020, Lieutenant Thompson held his monthly meeting with School Resource Officers Digiorgio and Woods.
  • On November 27, 2020, Officer Woods reached seven (7) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
  • On November 28, 2020, Sergeant Remkus reached six (6) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
  • On November 29, 2020, Dispatcher Brown reached one (1) year of service with the Holliston Police Department.
  • On November 30, 2020, new Full Time Dispatcher Gina Moscillo and new Per-Diem Dispatcher Daniel Nash completed day one of two of the “Next Generation E-911 for New Hires” training course.
  • During the month of November, Sergeant/K-9 Hagan and K-9 Mattis completed their mandatory 16 hours of in-service training with the Boston Police K-9 Unit.

December

  • On December 1, 2020, Chief Stone reached fifteen (15) years of service with the Holliston Police Department.
  • During the month of December, all department members reviewed the “Conflict of Interest Law” update and “Policy 1.18 Legal Process.”
  • During the month of December, all department members reviewed the “Conflict of Interest Law” update and “Policy 1.19 Off Duty Police Powers.”
  • On December 1, 2020, Sergeant Remkus attended a one-day “Fair and Impartial Policing Course” hosted by the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) in Southbridge, MA.
  • On December 1, 2020, new Full Time Dispatcher Gina Moscillo and new Per-Diem Dispatcher Daniel Nash completed day two of two of the “Next Generation E-911 for New Hires” training course.
  • On December 2 – 3, 2020, Lieutenant Leurini attended a two-day “Program Orientation Police Certification” hosted by the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC) via Zoom.
  • On December 4, 2020, Chief Stone met with Puja Meta, Chief of Staff to Senate President Karen Spilka, via Zoom and provide her with a department update.
  • On December 4, 2020, Chief Stone spoke on the telephone with Senate President Karen Spilka regarding the “Police Reform Bill” that is currently on Governor Baker’s desk.
  • On December 5, 2020, Chief Stone attended the Special Town Meeting (STM) at the Holliston High School.
  • On December 6, 2020, Officer Gonzalez resigned from the Holliston Police Department to take a police officer position in the Town of Milford.
  • On December 8, 2020, Lieutenant Leurini submitted a “Volunteer in Police Service” (VIPS) grant through the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) on behalf of the Holliston Auxiliary Police.
  • On December 9, 2020, Chief Stone and Lieutenant Thompson participated in a “Traffic Advisory Committee” via Zoom.
  • On December 9, 2020, Chief Stone attended a one-day “Police Law and Liability” training via Zoom with Attorney John Scheft.
  • On December 14, 2020, a posting for a new academy-trained police officer was advertised.
  • On December 15, 2020, Sergeants Dalrymple and Hagan attended a one-day “Fair and Impartial Policing Course” hosted by the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) in Southbridge, MA.
  • On December 16, 2020, Sergeant Belson attended a one-day “Fair and Impartial Policing Course” hosted by the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) in Southbridge, MA.
  • On December 17, 2020, Lieutenant Thompson and School Resource Officers Digiorgio and Woods met with the Robert Adams Middle School administration team via Zoom.
  • On December 22, 2020, Lieutenant Thompson held his monthly meeting with School Resource Officers Digiorgio and Woods.
  • On December 23, 2020, Crossing Guard Jean Spera retired from her post after serving the Town of Holliston for four and a half years.
  • During the month of December, Sergeant/K-9 Hagan and K-9 Mattis completed their mandatory 16 hours of in-service training with the Boston Police K-9 Unit.

COMMUNITY RELATIONS

NOTE: On March 13, 2020, Chief Stone administered a “Special Order” to all department personnel that limited close-proximity contacts with members of the public including many community interactions that typically occur each month.

November

  • On November 10, 2020, Lieutenant Leurini joined Director Winer from the Department of Youth and Family Services and Fire Chief Cassidy to participate in the monthly “Holliston Drug and Alcohol Awareness Coalition (HDAAC)” meeting at 1750 Washington Street, Holliston, MA.
  • On November 18, 2020, several members of the Holliston Police Department received a donation check for the “Toys for Tots” program from a local business. The donation was used to purchase toys for this year’s drive.
  • On November 23, 2020, Chief Stone, Lieutenant Thompson, Lieutenant Leurini, Sergeant Dalrymple, and School Resource Officer Digiorgio assisted the Holliston Senior Center with handing out over 175 holiday meals to Holliston seniors within the community.

December

  • During the month of December, the Holliston Police Department initiated a program entitled “Dinner on Us.” Throughout the month, a hot meal was ordered from one of three local restaurants and paid for by the police department. A hot meal was then delivered each night throughout the month of December by a Holliston Police Officer along with a handwritten note to the family or senior recipient. This community outreach initiative brought out the best in all of us and we hope to continue this new tradition during next holiday season.
  • On December 8, 2020, Lieutenant Leurini joined Director Winer from the Department of Youth and Family Services and Fire Chief Cassidy to participate in the monthly “Holliston Drug and Alcohol Awareness Coalition (HDAAC)” meeting at 1750 Washington Street, Holliston, MA.
  • On December 5, 2020, several members of the Holliston Police Department collaborated with the Ashland Police Department to participate in the annual “Fill-A-Cruiser” event at the Big Lots store in Ashland, MA. This annual event supports the “Toys for Tots” program that the Holliston Police Department has participated in for over thirteen (13) years.
  • On December 8, 2020, the Holliston Police Department participated in the “Coats 4 Vets” program at Gillette Stadium. Several jackets were distributed to Holliston veterans who are in need of a new winter coat.
  • On December 16, 2020, Chief Stone, Lieutenant Thompson, Lieutenant Leurini, Sergeant Dalrymple, and Sergeant Waugh assisted the Holliston Senior Center with their annual holiday “drive thru” luncheon.

  • On December 16, 2020, Sergeant Hagan and K-9 Mattis performed a K-9 demonstration for a Holliston High School class.
  • On December 18, 2020, Chief Stone, Detective Maguire, Officer MacGray, Officer Parent, Officer Hulme, and Dispatcher Lodola participated in the annual “Shop with a Cop” event in Framingham, MA
