Alan R. Cutler at 76

Alan R. Cutler, a beloved husband, father, and brother, passed away on March 19, 2023, at the age of 76. Alan was born in Providence, Rhode Island to Hilda and Howard R. Cutler, and grew up in Massachusetts with his sister Joan and brother Bruce.

In August 1971, Alan married Jane Anthracite, the love of his life, and they spent over fifty wonderful years together. He was a devoted husband who cherished his wife deeply. Alan was also a loving father to his two sons, Ray, and Derek Cutler. He took great pride in watching them grow and become successful in their own right.

He spent his career as a professor at RPI in New York, where he published groundbreaking research and inspired countless students to pursue their own love of chemistry. Alan’s dedication to his work was unwavering, and he continued to teach and mentor students until his retirement.

Outside of work, Alan had many interests that brought him joy. He loved fishing, kayaking, and exploring the Adirondack mountains with Jane by his side. He was an avid reader who always had a book at hand, and he enjoyed spending time with his dogs.

Alan will be remembered as a kind, generous, and intelligent man who touched the lives of many through his work and personal relationships. His family, friends, and colleagues will miss him deeply, but they will always cherish the memories they shared with him.
