From Mark Frank Park and Recreation Director
Holliston Eagle Scout Candidate Andrew McWilliams completed his project at Pleasure Point in March. Andrew built and installed two boat racks near the boat launch at Pleasure Point that the Parks and Recreation Department are renting out on a season-long basis for kayakers, paddle boarders and/or canoeists looking to store their equipment on the shore of Lake Winthrop this season.
Andrew first approached the Parks and Recreation Commission this past fall to pitch the project. He did an excellent job of communicating his vision and his plan. Throughout the process, Andrew provided helpful updates, budgeting and design ideas and tweaks, and he conducted several site visits with Parks and Recreation Staff to make sure the project was progressing smoothly.
Andrew saw a need for the town and worked with the Parks and Recreation Staff and commissioners to address the need. He did so in a timely and well-communicated manner, and he should be applauded for his excellent effort and craftsmanship. The Parks Commission always welcomes potential Eagle Scouts to reach out for ideas on projects. This is an example of an Eagle Scout approaching us with a well-formed and carefully thought-out idea that was executed very effectively. The Parks Commission thanks Andrew (and his team) for this wonderful contribution to the community.
The 16 slots for boats were all rented out for the 2022 season within two hours of The Parks and Recreation Department emailing the information to our contact list. We will look to expand upon this program in the future. Boat rack space rentals are $45 per slot. There is currently a waitlist available to help us determine demand, so please sign up if you are interested in a future slot.
