Akshara Shankar, a 2021 graduate of Holliston High School, was recently selected to receive an award from Sodexo’s Stop Hunger Foundation to recognize her for setting up a nonprofit to alert volunteers about the type of donations that are needed to stock local food pantries.

From Camps to Concerts: Parks and Recreation
After 15 months of masked, socially distant and small-group programming Parks and Recreation is thrilled to be looking ahead to a summer of relative normalcy. There are a number of new and exciting things the department is excited to highlight, that should serve the community’s recreational needs better than ever. Here are few initiatives and services that are new for 2021.
Mosquito Spraying Scheduled
Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project personnel will be in Holliston: June 29, 30, July 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28. All dates are tentative due to weather conditions.
MetroWest Solar + Clean Heat Challenge Launches June 17
The municipalities of Ashland, Framingham, Holliston, and Natick are proud to announce the launch of the MetroWest Solar + Clean Heat Challenge to provide residents and local small businesses with an easy and affordable option to go solar as well as switch to clean heating and cooling technologies.

Holliston’s Community Action Fund Receives Gift from Shredding Day
Update: This April’s Holliston Shredding Day event resulted in a significant contribution to the Holliston Community Action Fund (HCAF). The gift from the shredding day event sponsored by Vesta Real Estate Group and many other local partners was a welcome contribution to our community. President John Drohan and the HCAF board members have been busy cutting checks to assist local families in need during this devastating year of the pandemic and fundraising to provide more relief and work towards community betterment projects in Holliston.
Holliston Community Leader Tina Hein Honored as a 2021 Commonwealth Heroine
This month, the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women announced the 2021 Commonwealth Heroine Award honorees. The annual awards recognize women across the Commonwealth for their extraordinary contributions to their local communities in public or community service. Among this year’s honorees is Tina Hein, a Holliston resident nominated by Representative Carolyn Dykema.

Milestone: Holliston Nurse Practitioner Pessin Recognized by Boston Globe
Kerrilyn Pessin, Nurse Practitioner with Commonwealth Cares Alliance, wife to Daniel Pessin and mother of four children, was recognized by her employer and selected by The Boston Globe for her efforts both in volunteering to be a on a COVID-19 task force where she provided in-home care to patients throughout the pandemic, and continues today, and for caring for a patient unable to obtain needed medical treatment during the Governor’s stay-at-home orders at the start and most fearful time of the pandemic.
