Catherine Cruz

Catherine J. “Judy” (Neushall) Cruz, age 87, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died peacefully on September 28, 2024. Judy was born September 6, 1937 in Scranton, PA to the late Margaret (Mahon) and Charles Neushall.

Judy attended St. Anne’s HS in Scranton. At 17 years of age, she went to nursing school at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, VA where she met the love of her life John Cruz. They were married in 1955 and lived in Brooklyn, NY until 1961. They then moved to the Orchards neighborhood in Holliston, MA. In 1964 they relocated in town to Robert Rd. In 1984, Judy and John moved to the Spyglass Hill condos in Ashland. She was currently residing at Timothy Daniels House in Holliston.

Judy was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Holliston. While her children were growing up John and Judy taught CCD and ran the St. Mary’s Church Youth Bowling League. Judy fostered 8 infants, 7 through Catholic Charities. Judy volunteered her time at Bethany Hospital in Framingham, MA helping to care for retired nuns. She bowled candlepins in the Holliston women’s league for many years. She was an avid card player. She enjoyed trips to the casino with John and Joanne, where she usually donated to their coffersJudy’s passion was being with her family, especially spending summers at their house on Cape Cod, taking the family on Caribbean cruises, vacations at York Beach, and Myrtle Beach.
Judy leaves her loving husband, John, of 69 years, as well as her children; Regina and her husband Dennis O’Leary of Georgia: John Jr. and his wife Ann Sweetman of Shrewsbury: Joanne and her husband John Dalton of Medway and Thomas and his wife Missy of North Carolina. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Derek, Nicholas, Miranda, Rachael, Isabel, Cory, Jordan and Ty. Great-grandchildren Skylar, Lexi, Daniel, Jack, Lincoln, Ruth, and Benjamin. She dearly loved all her dogs. She was predeceased by her brother Joseph J. Neushall. Judy leaves a brother, Charles T. Neushall of Moosic, PA.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Chesmore Funeral Home and will be held at a future date at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Holliston. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Holliston. The family would like to thank the staff at Timothy Daniels House in Holliston and the palliative care unit at Milford Regional Medical Center for their compassionate care.
