Claflin Hill Orchestra Saturday night hit a high note at Blair Square. The newly renovated park was spruced up earlier in the week by the local DPW cutting away overgrown weeds while the Downtown Marigold Project put their entrance gardens in weed free order. The concert by Milford’s Claflin Hill Orchestra even brought out Police Chief Matt Stone who provided crossing duty at the Central Street crosswalk. Select Board Chairwoman Tina Hein provided the texting to Facilities Manager Jim Keast to solve a “how do the lights at the pavilion get turned on” SNAFU.
It was a first for the “Square” sort of a moini cultural revolution, having a 35 piece orchestra play in the park. Paul Surapine and his musicians did not disappoint. The orchestra’s reviews came via Facebook with Marysharon DuFault writing “Another home run by the 300th.Committee”.
Rachel Kango said “It was fantastic”, Susan Andrews “sincerely hopes we can have the Claflin Hill Orchestra back every summer. The Economic Development Committee’s wishes that activities at Blair Square would stimulate businesses in lower downtown may have come true Saturday night with many attendees brandishing pizza boxes and ice creams. As dusk settled in, those lights in the pavilion came on via a timer – who would have known.. Thanks to the local VFW for the use of the folding chairs and Commander David DeGanne in transporting them. The orchestra’s last song was “America” to a rousing applause by the audience. The county’s 250th Anniversary is only two years away, anyone have ideas on events?
Thank you Bobby for organizing another wonderful 300th Anniversary event!
