The Holliston Senior Center and the Greater Worcester Area Habitat for Humanity are partnering in a new Home Repair Program available beginning in July 2022.
The program is funded through an initial grant of $75,000 from Holliston’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) allotment. This grant will allow Holliston and Habitat to help a select few Holliston homeowners make necessary repairs to provide safe living conditions.
Senior Center Director Lisa Borchetta is “very excited to be partnering with this wonderful organization to help Holliston seniors live safely in their homes.”
Repairs – not enhancements / additions – to improve safety, livability, and accessibility will be managed by Habitat for Humanity using qualified construction workers.
To qualify, seniors must own their home in Holliston and be current on their taxes, insurance, and mortgage (if applicable).
Future grants may be forthcoming from the Town’s ARPA grant as Holliston’s senior safe housing needs are better known.
Separately, the Holliston Fire Department has received a MA Senior SAFE grant. Senior SAFE aims to improve safety in senior housing. Fire Captain and home contractor John Gagnon installs the necessary equipment. Contact Senior Center Director Borchetta (508.429.0622) regarding Senior SAFE.
Senior SAFE includes:
- smoke and carbon monoxide alarm installation
- testing and replacing batteries
- installation of house numbers
- safety grab bars.
