Denise Klein

Denise Margaret Klein, 75, of Holliston, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7th, after a heroic 27-year battle with breast cancer.

Denise was born to Louis and Catherine Galterio of Port Chester, NY. She was the cherished wife of 53 years to Fred Klein, childhood sweethearts who first met in Kindergarten 70 years ago.

Denise was a devoted mother to Sara Klein, Emily (Josh) Atkinson, and to Allison (Michael) Milazzo. She was also “Gramma” to her beloved grandsons, Benjamin and Daniel, and “Gwamma” to granddaughters, Evelyn and Clara. Denise’s greatest joy in life was her family, and particularly her grandchildren, saying “yes” to every candy request, popsicle, and science experiment they wanted.

A lifelong educator, Denise began her career in Springfield, MA, later teaching in Walpole before taking time off to raise her kids. She returned to the classroom as a substitute teacher and aide before becoming a fourth-grade teacher in Holliston for the final 20 years of her career.

When Denise’s cancer progressed, she made a vow to herself to keep fighting until she could see her 50th wedding anniversary and her eldest grandson’s tenth birthday. She met both milestones, and she fought every day with the same strength, grace, and determination that defined her life.
Denise also leaves behind her brother, Ken Galterio, and his partner, Tammy McNutt, as well as her dear friend Linda Krpata. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

The family requests privacy as they grieve their loss.
