Environmental Help Desk Tip for Week of January 20, 2020

Holliston Reporter

Idling is no Idle Threat to the Environment

Avoid Idling.  Idling generates air pollution while getting 0 miles per gallon, wasting a quarter to a half gallon of fuel per hour depending on engine size and air conditioner use.

In contrast, it takes only a few seconds’ worth of fuel to restart a car or truck engine.

In Massachusetts, state law restricts idling to 5 minutes.  Avoid idling for even that long.

  1. Thanks, Utah. Hope folks take your wisdom to heart. It is a temptation to idle longer in these frigid temps but so harmful cumativly.
