The Hebert Family (light up hats) hosted a start a fire with flint and steel activity. Mrs. Hebert acknowledged that they used some “Boy Scout Water” (lighter fluid) to get their fire pit blazing.
Firepits were not the only illumination along the trail. Laser displays, up lighting of trees, the Blair Square Christmas trees, Phipps tunnel, and even lights along the DPW fence. Some examples are below.
These are not aliens – just caught by the laser lights. The fog machine supplemented Mother Nature’s efforts to make lights that much more interesting.
Phipps Tunnel with its lights all aglow.
A little blue hue for these trees.
Left, Mike O’Brien and Aaron Schachter (with a rail trail mask!) man their fire pit, passed out light up trinkets, AND helped to provide the lighting on the DPW fence.
The largest crowd gathered between Jon Sutherland’s (and son) S’mores pit (left) and TC Scoops Ice Cream (right)
Some folks provided a ‘far out’ experience as evidenced by the photos below.
Ed Payne (left) created a Photo Op backdrop for those revelers who wanted a selfie. Right, Gerry Schultz and Elizabeth Donovan provided fortunes (some in cookies) and answered questions about the future.
I noted a popular new trend in firepits this year. The new smokeless pits provide the ambience without the ‘woodsy’ aroma. Below, a familiar (to me) group enjoy the heat from the cherry wood log in their pit.
And it wouldn’t be New Year’s Eve if there was a New Year about to happen. The sign below says it all.
Please sign up ASAP for the Holliston Historical Society 40th Harvest Fair. The date is September 19, 2021 with a rain date of September 26, 2021. We still have spaces available, but these spaces are filling up quickly with 41 already booked.
You’re invited to enjoy the historic Asa Whiting House beautifully decorated with greens and flowers by the Holliston Garden Club, along with displays from the Society’s collections in seasonal settings.
The Senior Center Annual Fall Fair is only a few weeks away. Items may still be donated through the end of August. Bakers are needed to supply the Cake Sale. Volunteers are always welcome to help prepare for the Fair or to work at the Fair on September 11th.

Very cool.
Did anyone get a count of how many attended the walk?
Best estimates are good too…. Good Holliston fun
Anyone who wants to volunteer to host a fire pit should contact the Friends of the Rail trail http://hollistontrails.org
